Liquid crystal display

A liquid crystal display, comprising:

• a first substrate;
• a gate line including a gate electrode on the first substrate;
• a data line extending in a first direction and including a source electrode on the first substrate;
• a drain electrode on the first substrate;
• an insulating layer on the gate line, the data line and the drain electrode;
• a first electrode on the insulating layer, and a first opening defined in the first electrode;
• a passivation layer on the first electrode and in which a contact hole is defined overlapping the drain electrode;
• and
• a second electrode on the passivation layer,
• wherein
• a maximum width of the gate line in the first direction defines a first width,
• a minimum width of the gate line in the first direction defines a second width,
• a maximum width of the first opening in the first direction defines a third width, and
• the first width of the gate line is greater than a sum of the second width of the gate line and the third width of the first opening.
