Abstract
Environmental stress resistance is imparted to a plant or the environmental stress resistance of a plant is improved. Environmental stress resistance is imparted to a plant by changing the expression level of the tyrosine phosphatase gene (At1g71860).
Claims18
A method for increasing the resistance of a plant to high salt concentration, comprising:
- altering, in a plant, the level of expression of a protein tyrosine phosphatase enzyme which comprises an amino acid sequence having at least 90% amino acid identity to the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO:
- 2;
- and
- evaluating the salt-resistance of the plant.

A method for producing a plant having increased resistance to high salt concentration as compared to a wild-type plant, comprising the steps of:
- altering, in a plant, the level of expression of a protein tyrosine phosphatase enzyme which comprises an amino acid sequence having at least 90% amino acid identity to the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO:
- 2;
- and
- evaluating the salt-resistance of the plant, and then selecting a line having significantly improved resistance to high salt concentration.
