A method of treating breast cancer or inhibiting development of breast cancer comprising administering a pharmaceutically effective amount of a composition comprising carnosic acid in liposomes comprising lipids to a breast cancer patient in need thereof or to a patient at risk of developing breast cancer, wherein said composition comprises DOPC:DOPE:Rhodamine-PE:carnosic acid having a molar ratio of 49.9:40:0.1:10.
