Abstract
The present invention provides a healing abutment for attachment to a dental implant with marking locations thereon. The marking locations either lack or have markers that provide a binary code system for retrieving unique information about the healing abutment and the underlying implant.
Claims40
A method of creating a prosthesis for mating with a dental implant in a mouth of a patient having a dental implant installed therein, the dental implant being coupled to an attachment member having at least one informational marker that indicates information regarding the dental implant, the method comprising:
- scanning a portion of the mouth of the patient using an imaging device coupled to a computer to generate scan data, the scanned portion of the mouth including the attachment member that is coupled to the dental implant;
- displaying, on a display device, a three-dimensional computer model of the scanned portion of the mouth, the three-dimensional computer model being derived from the scan data;
- based at least on the information indicated by the at least one informational marker, displaying an image of the dental implant in the three-dimensional computer model of the scanned portion of the mouth;
- using the three-dimensional computer model, developing a design for a prosthesis to be attached to the dental implant in the mouth of the patient;
- transmitting dimensional information associated with the designed prosthesis to a milling machine;
- and
- by use of the milling machine, fabricating at least a portion of the prosthesis.
A method of creating a custom abutment for attachment to a dental implant in a mouth of a patient, comprising:
- by use of an intraoral scanner, scanning the mouth to create scan data associated with at least teeth, gingival tissue, and an attachment member coupled to the dental implant, the attachment member having at least one informational marker that indicates information regarding the dental implant;
- based on the scan data, displaying a three-dimensional model of at least a portion of the mouth including a three-dimensional model of at least a portion of the attachment member;
- based on the information indicated from the informational markers, modifying the three-dimensional model to include a three dimensional model of at least a portion of the dental implant;
- designing the custom abutment using the modified three-dimensional model;
- and
- by use of a milling machine, milling the custom abutment.
A method of creating a prosthesis for mating with a dental implant in a mouth of a patient, comprising:
- displaying, a three-dimensional computer model of at least a portion of the mouth, the mouth including an attachment member coupled to the dental implant, the attachment member having at least one feature that indicates information regarding the dental implant;
- based on the information indicated from the at least one feature, determining an orientation of at least a portion of the dental implant to be used in producing the prosthesis;
- designing the prosthesis using the three-dimensional computer model and the determined orientation of the at least a portion of the dental implant;
- determining final dimensional information for the prosthesis;
- and
- by use of a milling machine, fabricating the prosthesis based on the final dimensional information.
A method of creating a prosthesis for mating with a dental implant in a mouth of a patient, comprising:
- scanning at least a portion of the mouth thereby generating scan data, the mouth including an attachment member coupled to the dental implant, the attachment member having at least one feature that indicates information regarding the dental implant;
- electronically transmitting the scan data to a computer including a graphical imaging software program for analysis thereof;
- displaying, using the graphical imaging software program, a three-dimensional computer model of at least a portion of the mouth;
- using the graphical imaging software program, based on the information indicated from the at least one feature, determining an orientation of at least a portion of the dental implant to be used in producing the prosthesis;
- designing the prosthesis using the three-dimensional computer model and the determined orientation of the at least a portion of the dental implant;
- superimposing the designed prosthesis within the three-dimensional computer model;
- determining final dimensional information for the prosthesis;
- transmitting the final dimensional information to a milling machine;
- and
- fabricating the prosthesis using the milling machine and the final dimensional information.
