Circuit diagnostic manager

A non-transitory computer-readable medium storing instructions, the instructions comprising:

• one or more instructions that, when executed by one or more processors, cause the one or more processors to:
• obtain health information associated with a network circuit included in an optical network, the optical network including a plurality of network devices, at least one of which being a reconfigurable optical add-drop multiplexer (ROADM) that is connected to an optical fiber, the optical fiber being part of a network circuit;
• the health information including information associated with a level of performance of the network circuit;
• identify a health issue, associated with the network circuit, based on the health information and network circuit information associated with the network circuit, the health issue indicating that the level of performance of the network circuit does not satisfy a threshold level of performance;
• select a diagnostic technique from among a plurality of diagnostic techniques to be applied to the network circuit based on identifying the health issue, the plurality of diagnostic techniques including a pseudo random bit sequence (PRBS) test, a trail trace identifier test (TTI), and a tandem connection monitoring (TCM) test;
• automatically and iteratively apply the selected diagnostic technique to the network circuit in order to identify a fault location,
• the fault location identifying a point in the network circuit where the health issue is caused, and
• said iteratively applying the selected diagnostic technique to the network circuit including repeatedly applying the selected diagnostic technique to successive portions of the network circuit;
• determine a corrective action, associated with network circuit, based on the fault location and the health issue,
• the corrective action including an action to be taken in order to cause the level of performance of the network circuit to satisfy the threshold level of performance;
• and
• provide information associated with the corrective action,
• the information associated with the corrective action including information associated with the fault location, and
• the information associated with the corrective action being provided to cause the corrective action to be taken.

A method, comprising:

• transmitting optical signals over an optical fiber provided in an optical network, the optical network including a plurality of network devices, at least one of which being a reconfigurable optical add-drop multiplexer (ROADM) that is connected to the optical fiber, the optical fiber being part of a network circuit;
• receiving, by a diagnostic device, health information associated with the health information including information associated with a level of performance of the network circuit;
• identifying, by the diagnostic device, a health issue associated with the network circuit,
• the health issue indicating that the level of performance of the network circuit does not satisfy a threshold level of performance, and the health issue being identified based on the health information and network circuit information associated with the network circuit;
• selecting a diagnostic technique to be applied to the network circuit from among a plurality of diagnostic techniques, by the diagnostic device and based on the plurality of diagnostic techniques including a pseudo random bit sequence (PRBS) test, a trail trace identifier test (TTI), and a tandem connection monitoring (TCM) test,
• automatically and iteratively applying, by the diagnostic device, the selected diagnostic technique to the network circuit in order to identify a fault location, the fault location identifying a location of a fault, within the network circuit, that causes the network circuit to experience the health issue, and
• said iteratively applying the selected diagnostic technique to the network circuit including repeatedly applying the diagnostic technique to successive portions of the network circuit;
• determining, by the diagnostic device and based on the fault location and the health issue, a corrective action,
• the corrective action including an action to be taken in order to cause the level of performance of the network circuit to satisfy the threshold level of performance;
• and
• providing, by the diagnostic device, information associated with the corrective action to cause the corrective action to be taken.
