Abstract
Various disclosed embodiments include a method for assigning a refined material definition to a designed part, the method performed by a data processing system and including accessing the designed part through the data processing system. The method also includes assigning one or more nominal material definitions (NMDs) of one or more materials to the designed part. The method further includes selecting one or more functional material definition variations (FMDVs) associated with the assigned NMD for the designed part in order to generate a refined material definition (RMD) for the designed part. The method includes generating the refined material definition (RMD) based on the NMD and the one or more FMDVs.

A method of assigning a refined material definition (RMD) to a designed part, the method performed by a data processing system and comprising:
- accessing the designed part;
- assigning one or more nominal material definitions (NMDs) of one or more materials to the designed part;
- selecting one or more functional material definition variations (FMDVs) associated with the assigned NMD for the designed part in order to generate the RMD for the designed part;
- and
- generating the RMD based on the NMD and the one or more FMDVs.
A data processing system comprising:
- a processor;
- and
- an accessible memory, the data processing system particularly configured to:
- access a designed part;
- assign one or more nominal material definitions (NMDs) of one or more materials to the designed part;
- select one or more functional material definition variations (FMDVs) associated with the assigned NMD for the designed part in order to generate a refined material definition (RMD) for the designed part;
- and
- generate the RMD based on the NMD and the one or more FMDVs.
A non-transitory computer-readable medium encoded with executable instructions that, when executed, cause one or more data processing systems to:
- access a designed part;
- assign one or more nominal material definitions (NMDs) of one or more materials to the designed part;
- select one or more functional material definition variations (FMDVs) associated with the assigned NMD for the designed part in order to generate a refined material definition (RMD) for the designed part;
- and
- generate the RMD based on the NMD and the one or more FMDVs.
