Debugger with method restart capability

A system, comprising:

• one or more processors;
• and
• memory coupled to the one or more processors, wherein the memory stores program instructions that when executed on the one or more processors cause the one or more processors to implement a program debugger configured to:
• implement one or more user interfaces (UIs) enabling a user to submit a request, via a single UI interaction within a debugging session of a program, to restart execution of an invocable operation included in source code of the program;
• and
• in response to a particular request to restart execution of a particular invocable operation of the source code, the request to restart execution received via a single UI interaction according to a particular user interface of the one or more interfaces,
• designate, as a source code line whose corresponding executable code is to be executed next during the debugging session, a first line of source code of the particular invocable operation that corresponds to an executable operation, wherein at least one instruction of the particular invocable operation has been executed previously during the debugging session;
• indicate, to a submitter of the particular request, that execution of the program being debugged is to be resumed at the first line;
• and
• resume execution of the program being debugged, in a debug mode, at the first line, such that a next line executed in the debugging session in response to the particular request is the first line of the particular invocable operation, and such that the at least one instruction of the particular invocable operation that has been executed previously during the debugging session will be executed again, subsequent to execution of the first line of the particular invocable operation.

A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium storing program instructions executable by one or more processors to implement a debugger configured to:

• implement one or more user interfaces (UIs) enabling a user to submit a request, via a single UI interaction within a debugging session of a program, to restart execution of an invocable operation included in source code of the program;
• and
• in response to a particular request to restart execution of a particular invocable operation of the source code, the request to restart execution received via a single UI interaction according to a particular user interface of the one or more interfaces,
• designate, as a source code line whose corresponding executable code is to be executed next for debugging purposes during the debugging session, a first line of source code of the particular invocable operation that corresponds to an executable operation wherein at least one instruction of the particular invocable operation has been executed previously during the debugging session;
• indicate, to a submitter of the particular request, that execution of the program being debugged is to be resumed at the first line;
• and
• resume execution of the program being debugged, in a debug mode, at the first line, such that the next line executed in the debugging session in response to the particular request is the first line of the particular invocable operation, and such that the at least one instruction of the particular invocable operation that has been executed previously during the debugging session will be executed again, subsequent to execution of the first line of the particular invocable operation.
