Location determination using light-based communications

An apparatus comprising:

• means for determining a first set of candidate positions of a mobile device corresponding to a first time instance based, at least in part, on position data including a first set of identifiers decoded from signals including respective first one or more light-based communications received by the mobile device from a first one or more light devices, wherein the mobile device is located at a first location at the first time instance;
• and
• means for selecting at least one candidate position from the first set of candidate positions, in response to a determination that the first set of candidate positions includes more than one candidate position, in order to resolve positional ambiguity, based, at least in part, on further position data from further signals from one or more devices, wherein the means for selecting the at least one candidate position from the first set of candidate positions comprises means for selecting the at least one candidate position based further on a distance between the at least one candidate position and another location of the mobile device at another time instance.

A non-transitory computer readable media programmed with instructions, executable on a processor, to:

• determine a first set of candidate positions of a mobile device corresponding to a first time instance based, at least in part, on position data including a first set of identifiers decoded from signals including respective first one or more light-based communications received by the mobile device from a first one or more light devices, wherein the mobile device is located at a first location at the first time instance;
• and
• in response to a determination that the first set of candidate positions includes more than one candidate position, select at least one candidate position from the first set of candidate positions, in order to resolve positional ambiguity, based, at least in part, on further position data from further signals from one or more devices, wherein the instructions to select the at least one candidate position from the first set of candidate positions comprise one or more instructions to select the at least one candidate position based further on a distance between the at least one candidate position and another location of the mobile device at another time instance.
