A method of hydraulic fracturing is provided which uses metal silicides to generate significant pressure inside a wellbore. The method comprises injecting a fracturing fluid and an aqueous or reacting fluid into the wellbore to react with the fracturing fluid. The fracturing fluid comprises metal silicide, which may be uncoated or coated, and hydrocarbon fluid. The reacting fluid comprises water or a solvent. A method of removing buildup in pipelines such as subsea pipelines which uses metal silicides to generate heat and pressure inside the pipeline is also provided. The method comprises injecting an organic slug and an aqueous slug. The organic slug comprises metal silicide and hydrocarbon fluid. The aqueous slug comprises water. Alternatively, there is also provided a method for purifying flowback water produced from a hydraulic fracturing process comprising adding metal silicide to the flowback water produced from a hydraulic fracturing process.

This invention relates to a new and improved hydraulic fracturing operation using metal silicides to generate significant pressure in a wellbore. The metal silicide may be an alkali metal silicide or another metal silicide.
This invention also relates to a method that will simplify the treatment/disposal, or recycling, of the flowback waters produced during the hydraulic fracturing process with the use of metal silicides. The metal silicide may be an alkali metal silicide or another metal silicide.
This invention also relates to a new and improved method for removing the buildup of asphaltene and/or waxy deposits in a pipeline (such as a subsea pipeline) using metal silicides. The metal silicide may be an alkali metal silicide or another metal silicide.

A new and improved hydraulic fracturing method is provided based on the use of metal silicides. More specifically, metal silicide is used in a hydraulic fracturing process to react with water and create significant heat and gas volume leading to a rapid pressurization in a confined space that will enhance the hydraulic fracturing of subterranean hydrocarbon bearing formations and permit the recovery of hydrocarbon fluids. The metal silicide may be an alkali metal silicide or another metal silicide.
Additionally, a new and improved method for removing asphaltene or waxy buildup is also provided based on the use of metal silicide. More specifically, metal silicide is used to deliver heat and pressure in a controlled manner to remove buildup of materials in subsea pipelines. The metal silicide may be an alkali metal silicide or another metal silicide.
Alternatively, there is also provided a method for purifying flowback water produced from a hydraulic fracturing process comprising adding metal silicide to the flowback water produced from a hydraulic fracturing process. The metal silicide may be alkali metal silicide or another metal silicide.
