A cyanated naphthalenebenzimidazole compound of the formula I

• R1, R2, R3, R4, R5, R6, R7, R8, R9 and R10 are each independently hydrogen, cyano or aryl which is unsubstituted or has one or more identical or different substituents RAr, where
• each RAr is independently selected from the group consisting of cyano, hydroxyl, mercapto, halogen, C1-C20-alkoxy, C1-C20-alkylthio, nitro, —NRAr2RAr3, —NRAr2CORAr3, —CONRAr2RAr3, SO2NRAr2RAr3, —COORAr2, —SO3RAr2,
• C1-C30-alkyl, C2-C30-alkenyl, C2-C30-alkynyl, where the three latter radicals are unsubstituted or bear one or more Ra groups,
• C3-C8-cycloalkyl, 3- to 8-membered heterocyclyl, where the two latter radicals are unsubstituted or bear one or more Rb groups,
• aryl, U-aryl, heteroaryl and U-heteroaryl, where the four latter radicals are unsubstituted or bear one or more Rb groups,
• where
• each Ra is independently selected from the group consisting of cyano, hydroxyl, oxo, mercapto, halogen, C1-C20-alkoxy, C1-C20-alkylthio, nitro, —NRAr2RAr3, —NRAr2CORAr3, —CONRAr2RAr3, —SO2NRAr2RAr3, —COORAr2, —SO3RAr2, C3-C8-cycloalkyl, 3- to 8-membered heterocyclyl, aryl and heteroaryl, where the cycloalkyl, heterocyclyl, aryl and heteroaryl radicals are unsubstituted or bear one or more Rb groups;
• each Rb is independently selected from the group consisting of cyano, hydroxyl, oxo, mercapto, halogen, C1-C20-alkoxy, C1-C20-alkylthio, nitro, —NRAr2RAr3, —NRAr2CORAr3, —CONRAr2RAr3, —SO2NRAr2RAr3, —COORAr2, —SO3RAr2, C1-C18-alkyl, C2-C18-alkenyl, C2-C18-alkynyl, C3-C8-cycloalkyl, 3- to 8-membered heterocyclyl, aryl and heteroaryl, where the four latter radicals are unsubstituted or bear one or more Rb1 groups,
• each Rb1 is independently selected from the group consisting of cyano, hydroxyl, mercapto, oxo, nitro, halogen, —NRAr2RAr3, —NRAr2CORAr3, —CONRAr2RAr3, —SO2NRAr2RAr3, —COORAr2, —SO3RAr2, —SO3RAr2, C1-C18-alkyl, C2-C18-alkenyl, C2-C18-alkynyl, C1-C12-alkoxy, C1-C12-alkylthio,
• U is an —O—, —S—, —NRAr1—, —CO—, —SO— or —SO2— moiety;
• RAr1, RAr2, RAr3 are each independently hydrogen, C1-C15-alkyl, 3- to 8-membered cycloalkyl, 3- to 8-membered heterocyclyl, aryl or heteroaryl, where alkyl is unsubstituted or bears one or more Ra groups, where 3- to 8-membered cycloalkyl, 3- to 8-membered heterocyclyl, aryl and heteroaryl are unsubstituted or bear one or more Rb groups;
• with the proviso that one, two or three of the radicals R1, R2, R3, R4, R5, R6, R7, R8, R9 or R10 are cyano and 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 or 7 of the R1, R2, R3, R4, R5, R6, R7, R8, R9 and R10 radicals is/are aryl which is unsubstituted or has one or more identical or different substituents RAr.
