Abstract
Formulations having, as active agents, at least one quaternized polymeric microgel and at least one surfactant, methods of making, and methods of using are described.
Claims10
An antibacterial formulation comprising:
- a quaternized polymeric chitosan microgel comprising a cationic chitosan polymer complexed with an anionic polymer, wherein the cationic chitosan polymer comprises N-[(2-hydroxy-3-trimethylammonium) propyl] chitosan chloride;
- and
- at least one surfactant providing colloidal stability to the formulation, wherein the at least one surfactant is a nonionic surfactant selected from the group consisting of a polyoxypropylene glycol alkyl ether, a glycol octylphenol ether, an ethoxylated alkylphenol, and a polyoxyethylene glycol alkylphenol ether;
- wherein the antibacterial formulation is essentially free of cationic surfactants;
- and
- wherein the quaternized polymeric chitosan microgel comprises particles having a size distribution in the range of about 10 nm to about 1000 nm.
