A genetically modified yeast cell selected from the group consisting of I. orientalis, C. lambica, and S. bulderi, the genetically modified yeast cell comprising an active 3-HP fermentation pathway, wherein the cell comprises an exogenous BAAT or gabT gene encoding an enzymatically active polypeptide with at least 85% sequence identity to an amino acid sequence selected from SEQ ID NOs:
