## Abstract

A novel maize variety designated X13H899 and seed, plants and plant parts thereof are produced by crossing inbred maize varieties. Methods for producing a maize plant by crossing hybrid maize variety X13H899 with another maize plant are disclosed. Methods for producing a maize plant containing in its genetic material one or more traits introgressed into X13H899 through backcross conversion and/or transformation, and to the maize seed, plant and plant part produced thereby. This invention relates to the maize variety X13H899, the seed, the plant produced from the seed, and variants, mutants, and minor modifications of maize variety X13H899. This invention further relates to methods for producing maize varieties derived from maize variety X13H899.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A seed of hybrid maize variety X13H899, representative seed produced by crossing a first plant of variety PH1KFS with a second plant of variety PH2D1R, wherein representative seed of the varieties PH1KFS and PH2D1R have been deposited under ATCC Accession Numbers PTA-121316 and PTA-123727, respectively.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

A plant of hybrid maize variety X13H899 grown from the seed of claim 1.

### Claim 3 (depends on 2)

A plant part or cell of the plant of claim 2.

### Claim 4 (depends on 1)

A method of producing the seed of claim 1, the method comprising crossing a plant of variety PH1KFS with a plant of variety PH2D1R, wherein representative seed of varieties PH1KFS and PH2D1R have been deposited under ATCC Accession numbers PTA-121316 and PTA-123727, respectively.

### Claim 5

A seed of hybrid maize variety X13H899 further comprising at least a first transgene, representative seed of variety X13H899 produced by crossing a first plant of variety PH1KFS with a second plant of variety PH2D1R, wherein representative seed of the varieties PH1KFS and PH2D1R have been deposited under ATCC Accession Numbers PTA-121316 and PTA-123727, respectively.

### Claim 6 (depends on 5)

The seed of claim 5, wherein the transgene confers a property selected from the group consisting of male sterility, herbicide tolerance, insect resistance, disease resistance, waxy starch, modified fatty acid metabolism, modified phytic acid metabolism, modified carbohydrate metabolism and modified protein metabolism.

### Claim 7 (depends on 5)

The hybrid maize variety X13H899 seed of claim 5, further comprising a seed treatment on the surface of the seed.

### Claim 8 (depends on 5)

A method for producing nucleic acids, the method comprising isolating nucleic acids from the hybrid maize variety X13H899 seed of claim 5.

### Claim 9 (depends on 5)

A plant grown from the seed of claim 5.

### Claim 10 (depends on 9)

A method for producing a second maize plant, the method comprising applying plant breeding techniques to the plant of claim 9 to produce the second maize plant.

### Claim 11 (depends on 9)

A method for producing a second maize plant, the method comprising doubling haploid seed generated from a cross of the maize plant of claim 9 with a different maize plant.

### Claim 12

A converted F1 hybrid maize variety X13H899 seed further comprising a locus conversion, the converted seed being produced by crossing a first plant of variety PH1KFS with a second plant of variety PH2D1R; representative seed of the varieties PH1KFS and PH2D1R having been deposited under ATCC Accession Numbers PTA-121316 and PTA-123727, respectively; wherein at least one of the varieties PH1KFS and PH2D1R further comprises a locus conversion and wherein the converted seed produces a plant having otherwise essentially the same phenotypic characteristics as maize variety X13H899 when grown under the same environmental conditions.

### Claim 13 (depends on 12)

The converted seed of claim 12, further comprising a seed treatment on the surface of the converted seed.

### Claim 14 (depends on 12)

The converted seed of claim 12, wherein the locus conversion confers a property selected from the group consisting of male sterility, herbicide tolerance, insect resistance, disease resistance, waxy starch, modified fatty acid metabolism, modified phytic acid metabolism, modified carbohydrate metabolism and modified protein metabolism.

### Claim 15 (depends on 12)

A method for producing nucleic acids, the method comprising isolating nucleic acids from the converted seed of claim 12.

### Claim 16 (depends on 12)

A plant, plant part, or plant cell produced by growing the converted seed of claim 12, the plant, plant part or plant cell comprising at least one converted F1 hybrid maize variety X13H899 cell.
