Abstract
Light-blocking structures for optical physiological parameter measurement devices or sensors are disclosed. Such optical physiological parameter measurement devices or sensors may include two photodetectors and a photo-emitter, as well as barrier walls that are interposed between the photo-emitter and the photodetectors. The barrier walls may have recesses that intermesh with surface profiles of protrusions that are attached to or part of a window of the optical physiological parameter measurement devices or sensors.

An optical physiological parameter measurement apparatus, comprising:
- a first photodetector;
- a second photodetector;
- a photo-emitter;
- a first barrier wall interposed between the photo-emitter and the first photodetector, the first barrier wall including a first recess;
- a second barrier wall interposed between the photo-emitter and the second photodetector, the second barrier wall including a second recess;
- a window;
- a first protrusion that is attached to or part of the window, the first protrusion including a first protrusion surface profile that when intermeshed with the first recess provides relative stability along two or more axes of motion;
- and
- a second protrusion that is attached to or part of the window, the second protrusion including a second protrusion surface profile that when intermeshed with the second recess provides relative stability along no more than one axis of motion.
An optical physiological parameter measurement apparatus, comprising:
- a first photodetector;
- a second photodetector;
- a photo-emitter;
- a first barrier wall interposed between the photo-emitter and the first photodetector, the first barrier wall including a first recess;
- a second barrier wall interposed between the photo-emitter and the second photodetector, the second barrier wall including a second recess;
- a window;
- a first protrusion that is attached to or part of the window, the first protrusion including a surface profile that when intermeshed with the first recess provides relative stability between the window and the first photodetector, the second photodetector, and the photo-emitter along a single axis of motion, wherein the relative stability is in both directions along the single axis of motion;
- and
- a second protrusion that is attached to or part of the window, the second protrusion including a surface profile that when intermeshed with the second recess also provides relative stability between the window and the first photodetector, the second photodetector, and the photo-emitter along the single axis of motion.
A method, the method comprising:
- providing an optical physiological parameter measurement sensor module including:
- a photo-emitter element,
- a photodetector element, and
- a barrier wall interposed between the photo-emitter element and the photodetector element, the barrier wall including one or more barrier wall surfaces;
- providing a window that includes a protrusion that is attached to or part of the window, the protrusion including one or more protrusion surfaces;
- positioning the window and the optical physiological parameter measurement sensor module relative to one another such that a subset of the one or more barrier wall surfaces defining a first surface profile and a subset of the one or more protrusion surfaces defining a second surface profile intermesh with one another between the photo-emitter element and the photodetector element;
- and
- fixing the window and the optical physiological parameter measurement sensor module in place relative to one another.
