Abstract
A method is presented for producing light using a liquid media. The method includes: suspending nanoparticles in a polar liquid media; disposing a pair of electrodes in direct contact with the liquid media; and generating an excitation signal between the electrodes in the pair of electrodes, thereby illuminating a portion of the nanoparticles.
Claims27
A light source, comprising:
- a support member;
- a liquid media supported by the support member, the liquid media is polar with nanoparticles suspended therein and the nanoparticles are comprised of a luminescent material;
- at least one pair of electrodes disposed proximate to the support member, where a surface of each electrode in the pair of electrodes is in direct contact with the liquid media supported by the support member;
- and
- an excitation source electrically coupled to the pair of electrodes and operable to apply an excitation signal between the electrodes in the pair of electrodes.

A light source, comprising:
- a plate;
- a liquid media disposed on a surface of the plate, the liquid media is polar with nanoparticles suspended therein and the nanoparticles are comprised of a luminescent material;
- at least one pair of electrodes integrated onto the surface of the plate, such that a surface of each electrode in the pair of electrodes is in direct contact with the liquid media and the electrodes in the pair of electrodes are coplanar;
- and
- an excitation source electrically coupled to the pair of electrodes and operable to apply a voltage signal between the electrodes in the pair of electrodes, such that polarity of the voltage periodically changes from positive to negative and vice versa.
2 more elements
A method for producing light, comprising:
- suspending nanoparticles in a polar liquid media, where the nanoparticles are comprised of a luminescent material and are sized less than 100 micrometers;
- disposing a pair of electrodes in direct contact with the liquid media;
- and
- generating an excitation signal between the electrodes in the pair of electrodes, thereby illuminating a portion of the nanoparticles.
