Abstract
The present systems and methods are directed to a private network of personal social sensors. The sensors are irreversibly paired with a communication device which ensures privacy of data. The sensors communicate data via a short range communications link to a communication device that in turn securely transmits the sensor data to a secure data store. A user may share their data with others within their social sensor network.
Claims20
A system for gathering data comprising:
- a sensor with a unique sensor ID;
- a communications device with a unique communications device ID;
- a device certificate having an information code associated with the unique sensor ID or the unique communications device ID, and
- a secure data store including a database for confirming pairing of sensor and communications devices based on the unique sensor ID and unique communications device ID;
- wherein the sensor is capable of being paired with the communications device in an exclusive relationship based on the sensor ID, the communications device ID, the database and the device certificate,
- the communications device is capable of being paired with the data store based on the communications device ID;
- wherein the unique sensor ID is unalterable and hardwired into the sensor as a number of fuses that are permanently blown to either represent a 0 or 1 and/or the unique communications device ID is unalterable and hardwired into the communications device as a number of fuses that are permanently blown to either represent a 0 or 1.

A method for collecting data comprising:
- from a sensor having a unique sensor ID which is paired to a communications device having a unique communications device ID, said pairing being based on the unique sensor ID, the unique communications device ID and a device certificate having an information code associated with the unique sensor ID or the unique communication device ID, wherein the unique sensor ID is unalterable and hardwired into the sensor as a number of fuses that are permanently blown to either represent a 0 or 1 and/or the unique communications device ID is unalterable and hardwired into the communications device as a number of fuses that are permanently blown to either represent a 0 or 1 said collection method further comprising:
- generating via the sensor, said sensor being paired based on the hardwired unique sensor ID and/or the hardwired unique communications device ID as well as a device certificate and a database in a data store for confirming pairing, sensor data related to an environmental parameter;
- transmitting, from the paired sensor, via a short range communications link, the sensor data to the paired communications device;
- receiving, at the paired communications device, the sensor data;
- transmitting, from the paired communications device, to a network, via a communications link, the received sensor data;
- receiving at the data store, via the network, the transmitted sensor data;
- and
- storing the sensor data in the data store.

A method for establishing sensor data privacy comprising:
- installing a client on a first communications device;
- establishing, via a first short range communications link, a connection between the first communications device and a second communication device;
- communicating, via a communications link, between the first communications device and a database;
- inputting, into the first communications device, a unique ID associated with the second communications device from a device certificate having an information code associated with said second communications device, wherein the unique ID is unalterable and hardwired into the second communications device as a number of fuses permanently blown to either represent a 0 or 1;
- transmitting, via the communications link, the input unique ID associated with the second communications device;
- authenticating the second communications device, by comparing the input unique ID associated with the second communications device to data stored in the database;
- pairing, based on the authentication, the first communications device and the second communications device, and
- storing pairing confirmation information in the database.
