Abstract
A method of controlling a communication mode of a device in a wireless communication network comprises determining a group communication performance for a group communication mode of the device, determining a single-link communication performance for a single-link communication mode of the device, comparing the group communication performance with the single-link communication performance, and controlling the device to operate in the group communication mode or the single-link communication mode based on the comparison.
Claims32
A method of controlling a communication mode of a device in a wireless communication network, comprising:
- determining a group communication performance for a group communication mode of the device, wherein the group communication performance comprises a user bit rate associated with the group communication mode;
- determining a single-link communication performance for a single-link communication mode of the device, wherein the single-link communication performance comprises a user bit rate associated with the single-link communication mode;
- comparing the group communication performance with the single-link communication performance, wherein comparing the group communication performance with the single-link communication performance comprises determining whether the user bit rate associated with the group communication mode is greater than the user bit rate associated with the single-link communication mode;
- and
- controlling the device to operate in the group communication mode or the single-link communication mode based on the comparison, comprising controlling the device to operate in the group communication mode as a consequence of determining that the user bit rate associated with the group communication mode is greater than the user bit rate associated with the single-link communication mode.
An apparatus configured to control a communication mode of a device in a wireless communication network, comprising:
- at least one processor configured to:
- determine a group communication performance for a group communication mode of the device, wherein the group communication performance is defined in relation to a user bit rate at which data can be transferred from the device to a network node using the group communication mode, wherein the user bit rate is defined in relation to a maximum user bit rate that can be achieved by the device when performing group communication through other devices in a corresponding group, and a number of the other devices that are currently active in group communication, and wherein the maximum user bit rate is defined in relation to a sum of respective gain values for devices in the corresponding group;
- determine a single-link communication performance for a single-link communication mode of the device;
- compare the group communication performance with the single-link communication performance;
- and
- control the device to operate in the group communication mode or the single-link communication mode based on the comparison.
A non-transitory computer readable medium storing instructions for performing a method of controlling a communication mode of a device in a wireless communication network, wherein the method comprises:
- determining a group communication performance for a group communication mode of the device;
- determining a single-link communication performance for a single-link communication mode of the device;
- comparing the group communication performance with the single-link communication performance;
- and
- controlling the device to operate in the group communication mode or the single-link communication mode based on the comparison;
- wherein the group communication performance is defined in relation to a user bit rate at which data can be transferred from the device to a network node using the group communication mode, and wherein the user bit rate is defined in relation to a maximum user bit rate that can be achieved by the device when performing group communication through other devices in a corresponding group, and a number of the other devices that are currently active in group communication.
A method of controlling a communication mode of a device in a wireless communication network, comprising:
- determining a group communication performance for a group communication mode of the device;
- determining a single-link communication performance for a single-link communication mode of the device;
- comparing the group communication performance with the single-link communication performance;
- controlling the device to operate in the group communication mode or the single-link communication mode based on the comparison;
- and
- receiving information exchanged between devices in a group designated to jointly use the group communication mode, and determining the group communication performance based on the received information, wherein the received information comprises a gain from the devices to a network node, which reflects the channel quality of a radio link between the device and network node or an activity value indicating availability of device resources for group communication.
