Systems and methods for haptic remote control gaming

A non-transitory computer-readable medium comprising one or more software applications configured to be executed by a processor, the one or more software applications configured to:

• control a movement of a remotely controllable device;
• receive information corresponding to the movement of the remotely controllable device;
• determine that an operating characteristic of the remotely controllable device has attained a predetermined relationship to an operational threshold based at least in part on the information corresponding to the movement of the remotely controllable device;
• determine a haptic effect configured to provide a cue regarding the remotely controllable device having attained the predetermined relationship to the operational threshold;
• generate a signal configured to cause a haptic output device in a remote control to output the haptic effect;
• and
• output the signal to the haptic output device in the remote control.

A method comprising:

• sending, by a remote control, a message to a remotely controllable device, the message configured to cause a first haptic output device in the remotely controllable device to output a first haptic effect;
• receiving, by the remote control, a haptic message from the remotely controllable device indicating that the first haptic output device in the remotely controllable device has output the first haptic effect;
• in response to the remote control receiving the haptic message, generating a signal configured to cause a second haptic output device in the remote control to output a second haptic effect configured to indicate that the first haptic output device in the remotely controllable device has output the first haptic effect;
• and
• outputting the signal to the second haptic output device in the remote control.
