Partial discharge detection system

A partial discharge detection system for detecting a partial discharge in an electrical component, comprising:

• a transducer configured to receive a signal from the electrical component generated due to an occurrence of a partial discharge in the electrical component and responsively provide a transducer output signal;
• a signal processing chain including a detector which detects a baseband signal in the transducer output providing a filtered baseband output representative of the transducer output signal;
• a digital signal processor configured to perform a Discrete Fourier Transform (DFT) on the filtered baseband output and responsively generate a plurality of DFT coefficients which correspond to a plurality of different frequencies;
• and
• a controller configured to identify an occurrence of a partial discharge in the electrical component based upon the plurality of DFT coefficients.
