## Abstract

A process and apparatus are disclosed for hydrotreating a hydrocarbon feed in a hydrotreating unit and hydrocracking a liquid hydrotreating effluent stream in a hydrocracking unit. A hot separator separates the diesel in a liquid hot hydrotreating effluent stream that serves as feed to the hydrocracking unit. Low sulfur diesel product can be saturated to further upgrade its cetane rating.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A process for producing diesel from a hydrocarbon stream comprising:
hydrotreating a hydrocarbon feed stream over hydrotreating catalyst in the presence of hydrogen;
separating a hydrotreating effluent stream into a vaporous hot hydrotreating effluent stream and a liquid hot hydrotreating effluent stream;

separating said vaporous hot hydrotreating effluent stream into a vaporous cold hydrotreating effluent stream and a liquid cold hydrotreating effluent stream;
fractionating said liquid cold hydrotreating effluent stream; and
hydrocracking said liquid hot hydrotreating effluent stream.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The process of claim 1 further comprising hydrotreating said hydrocarbon feed at a pressure within about 500 kPa of hydrocracking said liquid hot hydrotreating effluent stream.

### Claim 3 (depends on 1)

The process of claim 1 further comprising adding fresh hydrogen to the hydrocracking reactor.

### Claim 4 (depends on 1)

The process of claim 1 further comprising separating said hydrocracking effluent with said vaporous hot hydrotreating effluent stream in a cold separator.

### Claim 5 (depends on 1)

The process of claim 1 further comprising separating said hydrocracking effluent stream into a vaporous hydrocracking effluent stream and a liquid hydrocracking effluent stream and mixing said vaporous hydrocracking effluent stream with said vaporous cold hydrotreating effluent stream and mixing said liquid hydrocracking effluent stream with said liquid cold hydrotreating effluent stream.

### Claim 6 (depends on 5)

The process of claim 5 further comprising fractionating said liquid hydrocracking effluent stream in said fractionation column.

### Claim 7 (depends on 6)

The process of claim 6 further comprising producing a diesel stream from said fractionation column.

### Claim 8 (depends on 7)
