## Abstract

Flux formulations that remain pliable and tack-free after deposition are disclosed. In certain examples, the flux comprises a first component and an effective amount of a second component to provide a pliable flux after deposition. The flux may also include activators, plasticizers, surface active agents and other components.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A flux, comprising:
a resin or a rosin first component;
an effective amount of a second component to provide pliability to the flux upon deposition to a substrate; and
a third component selected from the group consisting of carboxylic acids, sulfonic acids, phospohonic acids, phosphate esters, amino acids, alkanoamines, halide bearing compounds, and combinations thereof, wherein the third component comprises adipic acid.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The flux of claim 1, wherein the second component comprises an oligomeric or polymeric component.

### Claim 3 (depends on 2)

The flux of claim 2, wherein the second component comprises a polyamide, an acrylic, an ethylene acrylic co-polymer, or a mixture thereof.

### Claim 4 (depends on 1)

The flux of claim 1, wherein the first component comprises an activated rosin adduct or a rosin ether.

### Claim 5 (depends on 1)

The flux of claim 1, wherein the third component is present in an effective amount to reduce formation of chemical species on the substrate.

### Claim 6 (depends on 5)

The flux of claim 5, further comprising a fourth component present in an effective amount to render the flux soft prior to or after deposition on the substrate.

### Claim 7 (depends on 6)

The flux of claim 6, in which the fourth component is a plasticizer or a surface active agent.

### Claim 8 (depends on 1)

The flux of claim 1, in which an amount of the first component and an amount of the second component are independently selected to provide an adherent flux.

### Claim 9 (depends on 1)

The flux of claim 1, further comprising a reactive diluent.

### Claim 10 (depends on 1)

The flux of claim 1, further comprising a colorant.

### Claim 11 (depends on 1)

The flux of claim 1, further comprising a photosensitive material.

### Claim 12 (depends on 1)

The flux of claim 1, further comprising a binder.

### Claim 13 (depends on 1)

The flux of claim 1, further comprising a surface active agent.

### Claim 14 (depends on 1)

The flux of claim 1, wherein the flux is substantially tack-free upon drying on the substrate.

### Claim 15 (depends on 1)

The flux according to claim 1, wherein the third component additionally comprises suberic acid.

### Claim 16 (depends on 7)

The flux according to claim 7, wherein the plasticizer is selected from the group consisting of phthalate-based plasticizers, adipate-based plasticizers, trimellitates, maleates, sebacates, benzoates, epoxidized vegetable oils, sulfonamides, organophosphates, glycols, polyethers and various ethylene oxide-propylene oxide (EO/PO) copolymers.

### Claim 17 (depends on 9)

The flux according to claim 9, wherein the reactive diluent is polypropyleneglycol diglycidyl ether.
