## Abstract

This invention relates to the new use of the compound 2-(R)-(4-Fluoro-2-methyl-phenyl)-4-(S)-((8aS)-6-oxo-hexahydro-pyrrolo[1,2-a]-pyrazin-2-yl)-piperidine-1-carboxylic acid [1-(R)-(3,5-bis-trifluoromethyl-phenyl)-ethyl]-methylamide (orvepitant) or pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof and pharmaceutical compositions containing it for the treatment of chronic cough, including chronic refractory cough and to combinations for such a use.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A method of treatment of chronic cough, comprising administering to a human in need thereof a therapeutically effective amount of 2-(R)-(4-Fluoro-2-methyl-phenyl)-4-(S)-((8aS)-6-oxo-hexahydro-pyrrolo[1,2-a]-pyrazin-2-yl)-piperidine-1-carboxylic acid [1-(R)-(3,5-bis-trifluoromethyl-phenyl)-ethyl]-methylamide (orvepitant) or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

A method of treatment according to claim 1, wherein the chronic cough is chronic refractory cough.

### Claim 3 (depends on 1)

A method of treatment according to claim 1, wherein the chronic cough is due to or associated with sarcoidosis, emphysema or idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF).

### Claim 4 (depends on 1)

A method of treatment according to claim 1, wherein the chronic cough is due to or associated with asthma, chronic bronchitis, chronic postnasal drip, eosinophilic bronchitis or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).

### Claim 5 (depends on 1)

A method of treatment according to claim 1, wherein the chronic cough is due to or associated with chronic infections.

### Claim 6 (depends on 1)

A method of treatment according to claim 1, wherein the chronic cough is due or associated with lung tumours, said lung tumours being bronchogenic carcinoma, alveolar cell carcinoma, benign airway tumours or mediastinal tumours.

### Claim 7 (depends on 1)

A method of treatment according to claim 1, wherein the chronic cough is due to or associated with a cardiovascular disease, said cardiovascular disease being left ventricular failure, pulmonary infarction or aortic aneurysm.

### Claim 8 (depends on 1)

A method of treatment according to claim 1, wherein the chronic cough is due to or associated with reflux oesophagitis, recurrent aspiration, endobronchial sutures, postnasal drip syndrome or rhinosinusitis.

### Claim 9 (depends on 1)

A method of treatment according to claim 1, wherein the pharmaceutically acceptable salt of the compound is maleate.

### Claim 10 (depends on 1)

A method of treatment according to claim 1, wherein the compound is orvepitant maleate Form 1.

### Claim 11 (depends on 1)

A method of treatment according to claim 1 wherein the chronic cough is due to or associated with bronchiectasis, tuberculosis or cystic fibrosis.
