## Abstract

Method and system for providing a fault tolerant data receiver unit configured with a partitioned or separate processing units, each configured to perform a predetermined and/or specific processing associated with the one or more substantially non-overlapping functions of the data monitoring and management system is provided.

## Claims

### Claim 1

An analyte monitoring and management system, comprising:
a transmitter unit configured to receive one or more analyte related signals from an analyte sensor; and
a receiver unit configured to receive the one or more analyte related signals from the transmitter unit, the receiver unit including a sample analysis module and a user interface module operatively coupled to the sample analysis module, the sample analysis module configured to generate a quiet host signal prior to receiving the one or more analyte related signals from the transmitter unit, and further, wherein the user interface module, in response to the generated quiet host signal, completes a current processing cycle, if any, and enters an inactive mode during the receiving of the one or more analyte related signals by the sample analysis module.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The system of claim 1, wherein the receiver unit further includes a communication module operatively coupled to the user interface module.

### Claim 3 (depends on 2)

The system of claim 2, wherein the communication module includes a wireless communication module.

### Claim 4 (depends on 3)

The system of claim 3, wherein the wireless communication module includes one or more of a Bluetooth communication module, a local area network data module, a wide area network data module, or an infrared communication module.

### Claim 5 (depends on 1)

The system of claim 1, wherein the analyte sensor includes a glucose sensor.

### Claim 6 (depends on 5)

The system of claim 5, wherein at least a portion of the analyte sensor is in fluid contact with an analyte of a patient.

### Claim 7 (depends on 6)

The system of claim 6, wherein the analyte includes one or more of glucose, blood, or oxygen.

### Claim 8 (depends on 1)

The system of claim 1, wherein the sample analysis module is configured to receive one or more data associated with a respective one or more analyte samples for processing.

### Claim 9 (depends on 8)

The system of claim 8, wherein the one or more analyte samples are received from a respective one or more glucose test strips.

### Claim 10 (depends on 8)

The system of claim 8, wherein the sample analysis module includes a sample analysis module processing unit configured to process the one or more data associated with the respective one or more analyte samples.

### Claim 11 (depends on 8)

The system of claim 8, wherein the one or more analyte samples include blood glucose measurements.

### Claim 12 (depends on 1)

The system of claim 1, wherein the user interface module further includes an output unit configured to output one or more signals associated with a condition of a patient.

### Claim 13 (depends on 12)

The system of claim 12, wherein the output unit is configured to display one or more of a visual, auditory or vibratory output associated with the condition of the patient.

### Claim 14 (depends on 13)

The system of claim 13, wherein the visual output includes one or more of a directional arrow indicator, a color indicator, or a monitored condition level indicator.

### Claim 15 (depends on 13)

The system of claim 13, wherein the output unit is configured to progressively increase or decrease an associated auditory or vibratory output signal over a predetermined time period.
