## Abstract

The present invention relates to baits, especially baits to be used in humane methods for controlling feral omnivore populations. The invention also relates to methods of manufacturing the baits.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A bait for humanely controlling a population of omnivorous feral animals, said bait comprising a solid or semi-solid carrier material and a nitrite salt, wherein the bait has an amount of nitrite salt which delivers at least 135 mg of nitrite per kg based on the weight of a feral animal in said population, the nitrite salt comprising at least 3% by weight of the total weight of the bait, and wherein the nitrite salt is present in the bait in an encapsulated form.

A bait according to claim 1 wherein the omnivorous feral animals are omnivorous feral pigs.

### Claim 3 (depends on 1)

A bait according to claim 1 wherein the nitrite salt is encapsulated in an encapsulating matrix.

A bait according to claim 1 wherein the encapsulating matrix is wax.

### Claim 5 (depends on 1)

A bait according to claim 1 wherein the nitrite salt is sodium nitrite.

### Claim 6 (depends on 1)

A bait according to claim 1 wherein the nitrite salt is in an amount which provides a lethal dose to a feral animal.

A bait according to claim 1 wherein the amount of nitrite salt is less than 30 g.
