Finding a potentially viral first media content and transmitting a second media content that is selected based on the first media content and based on the determination that the first media content exceeds a velocity threshold

A method comprising:

• scanning, at a server, a first media source of a plurality of media sources that are periodically scanned by the server, wherein the plurality of media sources have a predetermined amount of requests to be viewed;
• identifying, at the server, a first media content based on at least one discovery criteria that includes at least the engagement rate of the first media content;
• determining, at the server, a change in the engagement rate for the first media content;
• determining, at the server, a velocity measure for the first media content based on the determining the change in engagement rate for the first media content, wherein the engagement rate of the velocity measure is weighted based on an attribute of the first media content;
• determining, at the server, that the velocity measure for the first media content exceeds a velocity threshold that is dynamically determined based a type of the identified first media content, wherein different types of media content have different velocity thresholds;
• and
• transmitting, by the server, a second media content that is selected from the plurality of scanned media sources, wherein the second media content is selected based on the first media content and based on the determining that the velocity measure for the first media content exceeds the velocity threshold.
