Abstract
A mouthpiece includes a first body configured to be secured over one or more teeth of a user. The first body comprises a frame for location about at least one of a molar or a premolar of user, as a first bite pad between upper teeth and lower teeth. The first bite pad is molded in the frame while in situ in the mouth of the user and the first bite pad is formed by a PVS material. The first bite pad is in contact with at least one of a molar or a premolar of user, and the first bite pad defines an exterior shape of at least a portion of the teeth of a user. There is a similar second body with a connector between the first body and the second body and together these form the appliance for the user.
Claims19
An oral appliance for a user comprising:
- a first frame for location with the lingual surface of at least one of a molar or a premolar of the user of the each of the upper teeth and lower teeth on both sides of the mouth;
- a second frame opposite the first frame and being for location with the buccal surface of at least one of a molar or a premolar of the user of the each of the upper teeth and lower teeth on both sides of the mouth;
- a bite pad between upper teeth and lower teeth, the bite pad being adapted to be molded between the frames while in situ in the mouth of the user and the bite pad being adapted to be formed and adapted to be set in situ by a polyvinyl siloxane (“PVS”) material, the bite pad being for location with at least one of a molar or a premolar of the user, the bite pad being adapted to define an exterior shape of at least a portion of the upper teeth and the lower teeth of the user;
- the first frame having a first side wall for location adjacent the lingual side;
- the second frame having a second side wall for location adjacent the buccal side;
- at least one side of the first side wall or the second side wall having an inner face being at least partly curved in a concave shape between a position towards a top and a position towards a bottom of the respective side wall, the concave shape being outward wherein the top and the bottom of the at least one of the first frame or the second frame is respectively closer to the opposite frame wall than the portion of the concave wall between the top and the bottom of the frame walls;
- the respective first frame and the second frame, prior to having the bite pad in place being an at least partly hollow portion between a top and a bottom of each of the respective frames such that the at least the partly hollow portion has no intervening spacer over a lateral cross-sectional area being the greater part of the hollow portion;
- the bite pad when molded in place between the upper teeth and the lower teeth is contiguous in the partly hollow portion from a position towards the top of the frame between the upper teeth to a position towards the bottom of the frame and the lower teeth;
- the hollow portion between the first frame and the second frame having a cross member extending between the insides of the respective side walls of the frames over a lateral cross-sectional area between the side walls of the frames;
- and
- the first frame and second frame being connected together with the cross member and forming with the bite pad an integrated single piece form of the appliance for the user.
An oral appliance for a user comprising:
- a first frame for location with the lingual surface of at least one of a molar or a premolar of the user of the each of the upper teeth and lower teeth on both sides of the mouth;
- a second frame for location with the buccal surface of at least one of a molar or a premolar of the user of the each of the upper teeth and lower teeth on both sides of the mouth;
- a bite pad between upper teeth and lower teeth, the bite pad being adapted to be molded between the frames while in situ in the mouth of the user and the bite pad being adapted to be formed and adapted to be set in situ by a polyvinyl siloxane (“PVS”) material, the bite pad being for location with at least one of a molar or a premolar of the user, the bite pad being adapted to define an exterior shape of at least a portion of the upper teeth and the lower teeth of the user;
- the first frame having a first side wall for location adjacent the lingual side;
- the second frame having a second side wall for location adjacent the buccal side;
- at least one side of the first side wall or the second side wall having an inner face being shaped such that between a position towards a top and a position towards a bottom of the respective side wall, the shape is outward wherein at least one of the top or the bottom of the at least one of the first frame or the second frame is respectively closer to the opposite frame wall than the portion of the wall between the top and the bottom of the frame walls;
- the respective first frame and the second frame, prior to having the bite pad in place being an at least partly hollow portion between a top and a bottom of each of the respective frames such that the at least the partly hollow portion has no intervening spacer over a lateral cross-sectional area being the greater part of the hollow portion;
- the bite pad when molded in place between the upper teeth and the lower teeth is contiguous in the partly hollow portion from a position towards the top of the frame between the upper teeth to a position towards the bottom of the frame and the lower teeth;
- the hollow portion between the first frame and the second frame having a cross member extending between the insides of the respective side walls of the frames over a lateral cross-sectional area between the side walls of the frames;
- and
- the first frame and second frame being connected together with the cross member and forming with the bite pad an integrated single piece form of the appliance for the user.
An oral appliance for a user comprising:
- a first frame for location with the lingual surface of at least one of a molar or a premolar of the user of the each of the upper teeth and lower teeth on both sides of the mouth;
- a second frame for location with the buccal surface of at least one of a molar or a premolar of the user of the each of the upper teeth and lower teeth on both sides of the mouth;
- the first frame having a first side wall for location adjacent the lingual side;
- the second frame having a second side wall for location adjacent the buccal side;
- at least one side of the first side wall or the second side wall having an inner face being shaped such that between a position towards a top and a position towards a bottom of the respective side wall, the shape is outward wherein at least one of the top or the bottom of the at least one of the first frame or the second frame is respectively closer to the opposite frame wall than the portion of the wall between the top and the bottom of the frame walls;
- the respective first frame and the second frame being for receiving a bit pad formed and adapted to be set in situ by a polyvinyl siloxane (“PVS”) material, and wherein prior to having the bite pad in place being an at least partly hollow portion between a top and a bottom of each of the respective frames;
- the hollow portion between the first frame and the second frame having a cross member extending between the insides of the respective side walls of the frames over a lateral cross-sectional area between the side walls of the frames;
- and
- the first frame and second frame being connected together with the cross member and being for forming with the bite pad an integrated single piece form of the appliance for the user.
