Abstract
Lighting units, systems, and methods are described herein for determining whether occupancy detections are legitimate or not. Methods and systems are further described herein for powering down a network of power over ethernet (PoE) components.
Claims19
An occupancy sensing lighting unit, comprising:
- one or more light sources;
- one or more occupancy sensors;
- and
- a control module configured to:
- receive, from the one or more occupancy sensors, a signal indicative of detection, by the one or more occupancy sensors, of occupancy near the occupancy sensing lighting unit;
- determine one or more occupancy states of one or more remote lighting units within a given proximity of the occupancy sensing lighting unit;
- determine an occupancy history associated with the occupancy sensing lighting unit;
- calculate, based on the one or more occupancy states and the detected occupancy history, a likelihood that the detection of occupancy by the one or more occupancy sensors is legitimate;
- and
- set an occupancy state of the occupancy sensing lighting unit based on the calculated likelihood.

A lighting system, comprising:
- a plurality of lighting units;
- and
- one or more occupancy sensors,
- wherein at least one lighting unit of the plurality of lighting units is configured to:
- receive, from the one or more occupancy sensors, a signal indicative of detection, by the one or more occupancy sensors, of occupancy near the at least one lighting unit;
- determine one or more occupancy states of at least one other lighting unit of the plurality of lighting units within a given proximity of the at least one lighting unit;
- determine an occupancy history associated with the at least one lighting unit;
- calculate, based on the one or more occupancy states and the detected occupancy history, a likelihood that the detection of occupancy by the one or more occupancy sensors is legitimate;
- and
- set an occupancy state of the at least one lighting unit based on the calculated likelihood.
7 more elements
A method for sensing occupancy comprising:
- receiving, from one or more occupancy sensors of a given lighting unit, a signal indicative of detection, by the one or more occupancy sensors, of occupancy near the given lighting unit;
- determining one or more occupancy states of one or more remote lighting units within a given proximity of the given lighting unit;
- determining an occupancy history associated with the given lighting unit;
- calculating, based on the one or more occupancy states and the detected occupancy history, a likelihood that the detection of occupancy by the one or more occupancy sensors is legitimate;
- setting an occupancy state of the given lighting unit based on the calculated likelihood;
- and
- altering light output of one or more light sources of the given lighting unit based on the occupancy state of the given lighting unit.
