Prephenate dehydrogenases and arogenate dehydrogenases that are insensitive to effector feedback inhibition and methods of using the same

A method of increasing resistance of a plant to a herbicide comprising:

• increasing expression of, altering the expression pattern of or increasing the copy number of a polynucleotide or homologs, functional variants or combinations thereof in cells of the plant, wherein the polynucleotide encodes a polypeptide having at least 95% identity to SEQ ID NO:
• 2 (Glyma18g02650PDH1), SEQ ID NO:
• 4 (Glyma11g35760PDH2), SEQ ID NO:
• 6 (Glyma14g05990ADH1), SEQ ID NO:
• 8 (Mtruncatula3g071980), or one of SEQ ID NO:
• 13-26, and wherein increased expression of the polynucleotide in cells of the plant increases the resistance of the plant to the herbicide as compared to a control plant.

A method of increasing production of at least one product of the tyrosine or HPP pathways in a plant comprising increasing expression of a polynucleotide or homologs, functional variants or combinations thereof in cells of the plant, wherein the polynucleotide encodes a polypeptide having at least 95% identity to SEQ ID NO:

• 2 (Glyma18g02650PDH1), SEQ ID NO:
• 4 (Glyma11g35760PDH2), SEQ ID NO:
• 6 (Glyma14g05990ADH1), SEQ ID NO:
• 8 (Mtruncatula3g071980), or one of SEQ ID NO:
• 13-26, and wherein increased expression of the polynucleotide in cells of the plant increases the production of the at least one product of the tyrosine or HPP pathways.
