Abstract
Aspects of the subject disclosure may include, for example, a system for generating first electromagnetic waves and directing instances of the first electromagnetic waves to an interface of a transmission medium to induce propagation of second electromagnetic waves having at least a dominant non-fundamental wave mode. Other embodiments are disclosed.
Claims25
A method, comprising:
- generating, by radiating elements of a plurality of circuits of a waveguide system, instances of first electromagnetic waves;
- and
- directing, by the waveguide system, the instances of the first electromagnetic waves to an interface of a transmission medium to induce propagation of a combined electromagnetic wave without utilizing an electrical return path, the combined electromagnetic wave having at least a dominant non-fundamental wave mode, and the combined electromagnetic wave having a non-optical operating frequency.
A system, comprising:
- an interface for receiving a signal;
- and
- a plurality of transmitters for launching, according to the signal, instances of electromagnetic waves having different phases to induce propagation of a combined electromagnetic wave at an interface of a transmission medium, the combined electromagnetic wave substantially having a non-fundamental wave mode, and the combined electromagnetic wave having a non-optical operating frequency.
A method, comprising:
- selecting, by a waveguide system, a non-fundamental wave mode from a plurality of selectable wave modes;
- configuring at least one adjustable transmitter of a plurality of adjustable transmitters of the waveguide system according to parametric information associated with the non-fundamental wave mode selected;
- generating, by the at least one adjustable transmitter configured according to the parametric information, at least one instance of a first electromagnetic wave;
- and
- directing, by the waveguide system, the at least one instance of the first electromagnetic wave to an interface of a transmission medium for inducing a second electromagnetic wave having the non-fundamental wave mode selected.
