Abstract
A method and a system for producing a change in a medium disposed in an artificial container. The method places in a vicinity of the medium at least one of a plasmonics agent and an energy modulation agent. The method applies an initiation energy through the artificial container to the medium. The initiation energy interacts with the plasmonics agent or the energy modulation agent to directly or indirectly produce the change in the medium. The system includes an initiation energy source configured to apply an initiation energy to the medium to activate the plasmonics agent or the energy modulation agent.
Claims51
A method for curing a radiation-curable medium disposed in an animal or a human, comprising:
- (1) disposing said radiation-curable medium in the animal or the human;
- (2) placing inside the radiation-curable medium at least one energy modulation agent and at least one photoactivatable agent, said energy modulation agent comprising a photon emitter which emits at least one of ultraviolet and visible light into the radiation-curable medium upon interaction with an initiation energy;
- (3) applying the initiation energy from an energy source including at least one of x-rays, gamma rays, or an electron beam to the radiation-curable medium in order to provide said at least one of ultraviolet and visible light inside the radiation-curable;
- (4) inducing, from the light emitted into the radiation-curable medium, a photoreactive change which cures the radiation-curable medium;
- and
- (5) forming a radiation-cured medium at least at a local point in the animal or the human.
