Abstract
An optical fiber having a core comprising silica and greater than 1.5 wt % chlorine and less than 0.5 wt % F, said core having a refractive index Δ1MAX, and a inner cladding region having refractive index Δ2MIN surrounding the core, where Δ1MAX>Δ2MIN.
Claims42
A single mode optical fiber comprising:
- a core comprising silica and greater than or equal to 1.5wt % chlorine and less than 0.6 wt % F, said core having a refractive index Δ1MAX, and a cladding region having refractive index Δ2MINsurrounding the core, wherein Δ2MINis less than or equal to about −0.04% to greater than or equal to about −0.25%, where Δ1MAX>Δ2MIN, and wherein said fiber is single moded at 1550 nm.
A single made optical fiber comprising:
- a core comprising silica and greater than or equal to 1.5wt % chlorine and less than 0.6wt % F, said core having a refractive index Δ1MAX, and a cladding region having refractive index Δ2MINsurrounding the core, where Δ1MAX>Δ2MIN, and wherein said fiber is single moded at 1550 nm, wherein the single mode optical fiber has an effective area at 1550 nm of greater than or equal to about 110 microns2.
A single mode optical fiber comprising:
- a core comprising silica and greater than or equal to 3wt % chlorine and less than 0.6wt % F, said core having a refractive index Δ1MAXand a cladding region having refractive index Δ2MINsurrounding the core, where Δ1MAX>Δ2MIN, and wherein said fiber is single moded at 1550 nm.
