Abstract
A personal vehicle system including a deck having a substantially flat top surface, where the top surface is substantially flat and is of sufficient area to support two feet of a user, a truck coupled to the deck, where the truck consist of a first portion coupled to the deck and a second portion that tilts relative to the first portion, and a wheel motor coupled to the second portion of the truck. A personal vehicle system that includes a deck, a truck coupled to the deck, and a wheel motor coupled to the truck, where the wheel motor has a passive cooling system. The passive cooling system includes at least one endcap that rotates about a wheel rotation axis during operation of the wheel motor and the endcap has at least one fin.
Claims22
A personal vehicle system comprising:
- a deck having a top surface, wherein the top surface is substantially flat and is of sufficient area to support at least portions of two feet of a user;
- a truck coupled to the deck, the truck comprising a first portion coupled to the deck and a second portion that pivots relative to the first portion;
- and
- an electric wheel motor contained by a wheel, wherein a ratio of a length of a torque arm of the electric wheel motor to a length of a total wheel radius of the wheel is greater than 50%, the electric wheel motor comprising:
- a rotor assembly coupled with the wheel;
- and
- a stator coupled with the second portion and surrounded by the rotor assembly, the stator configured to drive the rotor assembly with electromotive force.
A personal vehicle system comprising:
- a deck having a top surface, wherein the top surface is substantially flat and is of sufficient area to support at least portions of two feet of a user;
- a pivoting truck coupled to the deck;
- and
- an in-wheel motor, wherein a ratio of a length of a torque arm of the in-wheel wheel motor to a length of a total wheel radius of the wheel is greater than 50%, the in-wheel motor comprising:
- a stator coupled with the truck;
- and
- a rotor assembly external to the stator, the rotor assembly coupled with a wheel and in electromagnetic communication with the stator, such that the stator operates to couple the wheel with the truck and to drive the-wheel by non-contact electromotive force via the rotor assembly.
A personal vehicle system comprising:
- a truck:
- a first portion configured to be coupled to a personal vehicle system;
- and
- a second portion that pivots relative to the first portion, the second portion comprising an axle, the axle configured to be rotationally fixed with respect to the second portion;
- and
- an electric wheel motor within a wheel, wherein a ratio of a length of a torque arm of the electric wheel motor to a length of a total wheel radius of the wheel is greater than 50%, the electric wheel motor comprising:
- a rotor assembly;
- a stator located internal to the rotor assembly and coupled to the axle, at least a portion of the stator surrounding at least a portion of the axle, the stator configured to be rotationally fixed with respect to the axle, the stator further configured to drive the rotor assembly by non-contact electromotive force.
A personal vehicle system comprising:
- a truck:
- a first portion configured to be coupled to a personal vehicle system;
- and
- a second portion that pivots relative to the first portion, the second portion comprising an axle, the axle configured to be rotationally fixed with respect to the second portion;
- and
- an electric wheel motor within a wheel, the electric wheel motor comprising:
- a rotor assembly;
- a stator located internal to the rotor assembly and coupled to the axle, at least a portion of the stator surrounding at least a portion of the axle, the stator configured to be rotationally fixed with respect to the axle, the stator further configured to drive the rotor assembly by non-contact electromotive force;
- and
- at least one fin on a surface in conductive thermal communication with the wheel motor, the at least one fin configured to revolve with respect to the rotation of the rotor assembly.
