Abstract
Transport of differential signals is provided. In one aspect, a telecommunications system includes a first unit and a second unit. The first unit can calculate a differential signal from an original signal. The differential signal can represent a change in signal levels between constant time intervals in the original signal. The second unit can estimate the original signal from the differential signal received from the first unit over a communication medium.
Claims20
A method, comprising:
- receiving, at a first unit of a telecommunications system, a digital data stream that includes a differential signal determined from a digitized original Radio Frequency (RF) signal at a second unit remotely located from the first unit, the differential signal including a change in signal levels of the digitized original RF signal between constant time intervals;
- determining, from the differential signal extracted from the digital data stream, an estimated signal that is an estimate of the digitized original RF signal;
- and
- converting the estimated signal to an RF signal.

A unit of a distributed antenna system, the unit comprising:
- circuitry configured for determining, from a differential signal extracted from a digital data stream received from a second unit located remotely from the unit, an estimated signal that is an estimate of a digitized original Radio Frequency (RF) signal at the second unit, the differential signal including a change in signal levels of the digitized original RF signal between constant time intervals;
- and
- digital-to-analog converter circuitry configured for converting the estimated signal to an RF signal that is representative of an original RF signal at the second unit.
