Abstract
At least one novel virus capable of infecting crazy ants (Nylanderia fulva) is isolated, along with polynucleotide sequences and amino acid sequences of the virus. The virus is capable of be used as a biopesticide to control populations of crazy ants.
Claims7
A biopesticide comprising a virus that infects and kills crazy ants, crazy ant food source, and a liquid carrier, wherein said virus comprises a polynucleotide having a sequence which encodes an RNA-dependent RNA polymerase having the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO:
- 97, and wherein said crazy ant food source is selected from the group consisting of corn grits, extruded corn pellets, boiled egg yolks, dead crickets, and a combination thereof.
- 97, and wherein said liquid carrier is selected from the group consisting of sugar water, saline solution, a gel, and oil.
A biopesticide comprising a virus that infects and kills crazy ants, a carrier, and at least one of a chemical pesticide, insecticide, synergist;
- wherein said virus comprises a polynucleotide having a sequence which encodes an RNA-dependent RNA polymerase having the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO:
- 97.
