Methods and apparatus to improve performance and enable fast decoding of transmissions with multiple code blocks

A transmitter, comprising:

• a separator configured to selectively segment a transport block of data into one or more code blocks based on the transport block size;
• a first cyclic redundancy check (CRC) calculator configured to generate a first cyclic redundancy check (CRC) for each code block when the transport block is segmented into a plurality of code blocks and to attach the first cyclic redundancy check (CRC) to each code block, and configured to not generate the first cyclic redundancy check (CRC) when the transport block is not segmented into two or more code blocks;
• and
• an encoder configured to encode data bits of one or more code blocks.

A method of transmitting, comprising:

• selectively segmenting a transport block of data into one or more code blocks based on the transport block size;
• generating a first cyclic redundancy check (CRC) for each code block when a number of code blocks is greater than one;
• attaching the first cyclic redundancy check (CRCs) to each code block;
• not generating the first cyclic redundancy check (CRC) when the number of code blocks is one;
• and
• encoding data bits of one or more code blocks.

A method of transmitting, comprising:

• selectively segmenting a transport block of data into one or more code blocks based on the transport block size;
• generating a first cyclic redundancy check (CRC) for each code block when the transport block is segmented into a plurality of code blocks;
• attaching the generated first cyclic redundancy check (CRC) to each code block;
• not generating the first cyclic redundancy check (CRC) when the transport block is not segmented into two or more code blocks;
• and
• encoding data bits of one or more code blocks.

A receiver, comprising:

• a decoder configured to decode data bits of one or more code blocks encoded by:
• selectively segmenting a transport block of data into one or more code blocks based on the transport block size;
• generating a first cyclic redundancy check (CRC) for each code block when a number of code blocks is greater than one;
• attaching the first cyclic redundancy check (CRC) to each code block;
• and
• not generating the first cyclic redundancy check (CRC) when the number of code blocks is one.

A receiver, comprising:

• a decoder configured to decode data bits of one or more code blocks encoded by:
• selectively segmenting a transport block of data into one or more code blocks based on the transport block size;
• generating a first cyclic redundancy check (CRC) for each code block when the transport block is segmented into a plurality of code blocks;
• attaching the generated first cyclic redundancy check (CRC) to each code block;
• and
• not generating the first cyclic redundancy check (CRC) when the transport block is not segmented into two or more code blocks.

A method of receiving, comprising:

• decoding data bits of one or more code blocks encoded by:
• selectively segmenting a transport block of data into one or more code blocks based on the transport block size;
• generating a first cyclic redundancy check (CRC) for each code block when a number of code blocks is greater than one;
• attaching the first cyclic redundancy check (CRC) to each code block;
• and
• not generating the first cyclic redundancy check (CRC) when the number of code blocks is one.

A method of receiving, comprising:

• decoding data bits of one or more code blocks encoded by:
• selectively segmenting a transport block of data into one or more code blocks based on the transport block size;
• generating a first cyclic redundancy check (CRC) for each code block when the transport block is segmented into a plurality of code blocks;
• attaching the generated first cyclic redundancy check (CRC) to each code block;
• and
• not generating the first cyclic redundancy check (CRC) when the transport block is not segmented into a plurality of code blocks.
