A pharmaceutical composition, comprising a pharmaceutically-acceptable carrier and an isolated RNA polynucleotide having at least one modified nucleotide, wherein the isolated RNA polynucleotide encodes a glycyl-tRNA synthetase (GRS) polypeptide that is up to about 500 amino acids in length and comprises amino acid residues 367-438 of SEQ ID NO:1, or a GRS variant that comprises a sequence at least 95% identical to residues 367-438 of SEQ ID NO:1.
