Abstract
Methods and apparatuses for operating a wireless mobile station configured to communicate with a wireless access point are described. A wireless mobile station can determine an interval of time between successive target beacon transmission times. The wireless mobile station can adjust, based at least in part on the interval of time, a period of time of an awake timer in response to having determined the interval of time.
Claims20
A method for communicating with a wireless access point, the method comprising:
- determining, at wireless mobile station, an interval of time between successive target beacon transmission times (TBTTs);
- adjusting a period of time of an awake timer based at least in part on the interval of time;
- and
- starting the awake timer in response to receiving data while the mobile wireless station is in a low-power state.
A system comprising:
- a memory;
- and
- at least one processor coupled to the memory and configured to:
- determine an interval of time between successive target beacon transmission times (TBTTs) received at a wireless mobile station from a wireless access point;
- adjust a period of time of an awake timer based at least in part on the determined interval of time between successive TBTTs;
- and
- start the awake timer in response to receiving data from the wireless access point.
A non-transitory machine readable storage medium having instructions stored thereon that, in response to being executed by at least one computing device, causes the at least one computing device to perform operations comprising:
- determining, at the at least one computing device, an interval of time changed between successive target beacon transmission times (TBTTs) received from a wireless access point;
- adjusting, based at least in part on the interval of time between successive TBTTs, a period of time of a first awake timer in response to the determining the interval of time between successive TBTTs changed;
- starting the first awake timer in response to (i) the at least one computing device receiving data from the wireless access point while the at least one computing device is in a low-power state or (ii) the at least one computing device sending data to the wireless access point while the at least one computing device is in a higher power state;
- starting a second awake timer in response to the at least one computing device receiving a data pending message from the wireless access point, wherein the at least one computing device is in the higher power state while the second awake timer is counting;
- and
- starting a sleep timer in response to an expiration of the first awake timer or an expiration of the second awake timer, wherein the at least one computing device is in a low-power state prior to the sleep timer expiring.
