Abstract
Techniques are described determining a partition pattern for intra-prediction encoding or decoding a depth block from a partition pattern of one or more partition patterns associated with smaller sized blocks. A video encoder may intra-prediction encode the depth block based on the determined partition pattern, and a video decoder may intra-prediction decode the depth block based on the determine partition pattern.

A method of decoding video data, the method comprising:
- constructing a partition pattern list that includes one or more partition patterns associated with a block of a first size;
- receiving an index into the partition pattern list;
- determining a partition pattern associated with the block of the first size based on the received index into the partition pattern list;
- determining a partition pattern for a depth block of a second size based on the determined partition pattern associated with the block of the first size, wherein the second size is larger than the first size, and wherein the depth block is a block of a depth map in a framework of three-dimensional (3D) video coding;
- and
- intra-prediction decoding the depth block based on the determined partition pattern for the depth block without intra-prediction decoding the block of the first size using the determined partition pattern associated with the block of the first size.
A method of encoding video data, the method comprising:
- constructing a partition pattern list that includes one or more partition patterns associated with a block of a first size;
- determining a partition pattern associated with the block of the first size based on the partition pattern list;
- determining a partition pattern for a depth block of a second size based on the determined partition pattern associated with the block of the first size, wherein the second size is larger than the first size, and wherein the depth block is a block of a depth map in a framework of three-dimensional (3D) video coding;
- intra-prediction encoding the depth block based on the determined partition pattern for the depth block without intra-prediction encoding the block of the first size using the determined partition pattern associated with the block of the first size;
- and
- signaling an index into the constructed partition pattern list that identifies the determined partition pattern associated with the block of the first size, wherein a video decoder uses the index to intra-prediction decode the depth block.
A device for video coding, the device comprising:
- a video data memory that stores one or more partition patterns associated with a block of a first size;
- and
- a video coder comprising one or more processors, the video coder configured to:
- construct a partition pattern list that includes the one or more partition patterns associated with the block of the first size;
- determine a partition pattern associated with the block of the first size from the stored one or more partition patterns based on the partition pattern list, wherein the partition pattern in the partition pattern list is identified by an index in the partition pattern list;
- determine a partition pattern for a depth block of a second size based on the determined partition pattern associated the block of the first size, wherein the second size is larger than the first size, and wherein the depth block is a block of a depth map in a framework of three-dimensional (3D) video coding;
- and
- intra-prediction code the depth block based on the determined partition pattern for the depth block without intra-prediction coding the block of the first size using the determined partition pattern associated with the block of the first size.
A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium having instructions stored thereon that when executed by one or more processors of a device for video coding cause the one or more processors to:
- construct a partition pattern list that includes one or more partition patterns associated with a block of a first size;
- determine a partition pattern associated with the block of the first size based on the partition pattern list, wherein the partition pattern in the partition pattern list is identified by an index in the partition pattern list;
- determine a partition pattern for a depth block of a second size based on the determined partition pattern associated with the block of the first size, wherein the second size is larger than the first size, and wherein the depth block is a block of a depth map in a framework of three-dimensional (3D) video coding;
- and
- intra-prediction code the depth block based on the determined partition pattern for the depth block without intra-prediction coding the block of the first size using the determined partition pattern associated with the block of the first size.
