Disparity vector derivation

A method of encoding video data, the method comprising:

• performing a disparity vector derivation process to derive a disparity vector for a coding unit (CU) of the video data, wherein the CU is partitioned into a plurality of prediction units (PUs) and each respective PU of the plurality of PUs is associated with a respective motion vector, wherein each of the PUs of the CU shares the derived disparity vector for the CU and the disparity vector derivation process is only invoked once for the CU, and wherein performing the disparity vector derivation process comprises:
• checking one or more neighboring blocks of the CU for a disparity motion vector;
• and
• converting the disparity motion vector to the derived disparity vector;
• and
• generating a bitstream that includes a coded representation of the video data in part by performing, based on the derived disparity vector, inter-view prediction for two or more PUs of the plurality of PUs.

A device comprising:

• a memory configured to store video data;
• and
• one or more processors configured to:
• perform a disparity vector derivation process to derive a disparity vector for a coding unit (CU) of the video data, wherein the CU is partitioned into a plurality of prediction units (PUs) and each respective PU of the plurality of PUs is associated with a respective motion vector, wherein each of the PUs of the CU shares the derived disparity vector for the CU and the disparity vector derivation process is only invoked once for the CU, and wherein the one or more processors are configured such that, as part of performing the disparity vector derivation process, the one or more processors:
• check one or more neighboring blocks of the CU for a disparity motion vector;
• and
• convert the disparity motion vector to the derived disparity vector;
• and
• perform, based on the derived disparity vector, inter-view prediction for two or more PUs of the plurality of PUs.

A device comprising:

• means for performing a disparity vector derivation process to derive a disparity vector for a coding unit (CU) of video data, wherein the CU is partitioned into a plurality of prediction units (PUs) and each respective PU of the plurality of PUs is associated with a respective motion vector, wherein each of the PUs of the CU shares the derived disparity vector for the CU and the disparity vector derivation process is only invoked once for the CU, and wherein performing the disparity vector derivation process comprises:
• checking one or more neighboring blocks of the CU for a disparity motion vector;
• and
• converting the disparity motion vector to the derived disparity vector;
• and
• means for performing, based on the derived disparity vector, inter-view prediction for two or more PUs of the plurality of PUs.

A non-transitory computer-readable data storage medium having instructions stored thereon that, when executed, cause a device to:

• perform a disparity vector derivation process to derive a disparity vector for a coding unit (CU) of video data, wherein the CU is partitioned into a plurality of prediction units (PUs) and each respective PU of the plurality of PUs is associated with a respective motion vector, wherein each of the PUs of the CU shares the derived disparity vector for the CU and the disparity vector derivation process is only invoked once for the CU, and wherein performing the disparity vector derivation process comprises:
• checking one or more neighboring blocks of the CU for a disparity motion vector;
• and
• converting the disparity motion vector to the derived disparity vector;
• and
• perform, based on the derived disparity vector, inter-view prediction for two or more PUs of the plurality of PUs.
