Abstract
Methods and systems for generating a proxy automatic configuration (PAC) script based on the location of a device. One example method includes receiving a request for a proxy automatic configuration (PAC) script from a source address associated with a device; determining, based at least in part on the source address, a location of the device; generating a PAC script based at least in part on the determined location of the device; and sending a response to the request for the PAC script including the generated PAC script.
Claims11
A computer-implemented method executed by one or more processors, the method comprising:
- receiving, by a network manager on a network, a request for a proxy automatic configuration (PAC) script from a source address associated with a device;
- determining, by the network manager and based on the source address, whether (i) the device is on a network local to the network manager or (ii) the device is not on a network local to the network manager by determining if (i) the source address is a local network address or (ii) the source address is a public network address;
- generating, by the network manager, a PAC script based at least in part on the determination of whether or not the device is on a network local to the network manager, wherein:
- if the device is on a network local to the network manager, the PAC script includes instructions configured to route traffic addressed outside the network local to the network manager through a proxy and to route traffic addressed inside the network without going through the proxy;
- and
- if the device is not on a network local to the network manager, the PAC script includes instructions configured to route network traffic directly to network resources;
- and
- sending, by the network manager, a response to the request for the PAC script including the generated PAC script.
A system comprising:
- a processor configured to execute computer program instructions;
- and
- a tangible, non-transitory computer storage medium encoded with computer program instructions that, when executed by the processor, cause the system to perform operations comprising:
- receiving, by a network manager on a network, a request for a proxy automatic configuration (PAC) script from a source address associated with a device;
- determining, by the network manager and based on the source address, whether (i) the device is on a network local to the network manager or (ii) the device is not on a network local to the network manager by determining if (i) the source address is a local network address or (ii) the source address is a public network address;
- generating, by the network manager, a PAC script based at least in part on the determination of whether or not the device is on a network local to the network manager, wherein:
- if the device is on a network local to the network manager, the PAC script includes instructions configured to route traffic addressed outside the network local to the network manager through a proxy and to route traffic addressed inside the network without going through the proxy;
- and
- if the device is not on a network local to the network manager, the PAC script includes instructions configured to route network traffic directly to network resources;
- and
- sending, by the network manager, a response to the request for the PAC script including the generated PAC script.
A non-transitory, computer-readable medium storing instructions operable when executed to cause at least one processor to perform operations comprising:
- receiving, by a network manager on a network, a request for a proxy automatic configuration (PAC) script from a source address associated with a device;
- determining, by the network manager and based on the source address, whether (i) the device is on a network local to the network manager or (ii) the device is not on a network local to the network manager by determining if (i) the source address is a local network address or (ii) the source address is a public network address;
- generating, by the network manager, a PAC script based at least in part on the determination of whether or not the device is on a network local to the network manager, wherein:
- if the device is on a network local to the network manager, the PAC script includes instructions configured to route traffic addressed outside the network local to the network manager through a proxy and to route traffic addressed inside the network without going through the proxy;
- and
- if the device is not on a network local to the network manager, the PAC script includes instructions configured to route network traffic directly to network resources;
- and
- sending, by the network manager, a response to the request for the PAC script including the generated PAC script.
