Abstract
A mechanical connector for securing a dowel rod to a frame of a dowel bar assembly as well as a dowel bar assembly are detailed. Each embodiment of the mechanical connector includes a portion to receive the dowel bar. A second portion of the mechanical connector engages the frame of the dowel bar assembly. A third portion of the mechanical connector engages a separate part of the frame further stabilizing the mechanical connector and frame.
Claims9
A connecting device for a dowel bar and frame wherein the frame includes a U-shaped portion over the dowel bar and the frame also includes a horizontal cross-member, the connecting device comprising:
- a spring coil wire;
- the spring coil wire comprising at least one circular member;
- the at least one circular member forming a cavity;
- wherein the cavity is capable of receiving the dowel bar;
- wherein the at least one circular member secures the dowel bar;
- the spring coil wire having a first end and a second end;
- wherein the second end has a hook for engaging the horizontal cross-member of the frame;
- the spring coil wire comprising an arm longitudinally extending from the at least one circular member;
- wherein a longitudinal axis of the arm is parallel to a longitudinal axis of the dowel bar;
- wherein the arm prevents movement of the U-shaped portion of the frame toward the at least one circular member;
- wherein the connecting device secures the dowel bar and the frame without utilizing welds;
- the spring coil wire bendable wherein the second end can be selectively moved to disengage the spring coil wire from the frame.
A connecting device for a dowel bar and frame wherein the frame includes a U-shaped portion over the dowel bar and the frame also includes a horizontal cross-member, comprising:
- a spring coil wire;
- the spring coil wire comprising at least one circular member;
- the at least one circular member forming a cavity wherein the cavity is capable of receiving a dowel bar;
- the spring coil wire has a first end and a second end wherein the second end is curved to secure the horizontal cross-member of the frame;
- the second end is a first longitudinal distance from the at least one circular member;
- the spring coil wire has an arm extending to a point a second longitudinal distance from the at least one circular member;
- the second distance greater than the first distance;
- wherein the spring coil wire maintains the U-shaped portion of the frame at least the second distance from the at least one circular member.
A connecting device for a dowel bar and frame wherein the frame includes a U-shaped portion over the dowel bar and the frame also includes a horizontal cross-member, the connecting device comprising:
- at least one circular member;
- the at least one circular member forming a cavity wherein the cavity is capable of receiving a dowel bar;
- a spring coil wire having a first end and a second end wherein the second end has an arm with a longitudinal axis parallel to a longitudinal axis of the dowel bar and a hook to secure the horizontal cross-member of the frame;
- the hook and the at least one circular member allow a mechanical connection
- wherein the connecting device, secures the dowel bar and the frame without utilizing welds.
