Abstract
The present invention relates to a new and distinctive canola, designated CE185942R. Also included are seeds of canola CE185942R, to the plants, or plant parts, of canola CE185942R and to methods for producing a canola plant produced by crossing the canola CE185942R with itself or another canola genotype, and the creation of variants by mutagenesis or transformation of canola CE185942R.
Claims14
A seed of canola designated CE185942R, wherein a representative sample of seed of said cultivar was deposited under ATCC Accession No. PTA 122828.
A method of introducing a desired trait into canola CE185942R, wherein the method comprises:
- (a) crossing a CE185942R plant, wherein a representative sample of seed was deposited under ATCC Accession No. PTA 122828, with a plant of another canola cultivar that comprises a desired trait to produce F1 progeny plants, wherein the desired trait is selected from the group consisting of male sterility, herbicide resistance, insect resistance, and resistance to bacterial disease, fungal disease or viral disease;
- (b) selecting one or more progeny plants that have the desired trait to produce selected progeny plants;
- (c) crossing the selected progeny plants with the CE185942R plants to produce backcross progeny plants;
- (d) selecting for backcross progeny plants that have the desired trait and physiological and morphological characteristics of canola CE185942R to produce selected backcross progeny plants;
- and (e) repeating steps (c) and (d) three or more times to produce selected fourth or higher backcross progeny plants that comprise the desired trait and an oleic acid value of about 70% and an α-linolenic acid value of less than about 3% as a percentage of total fatty acids, comprise all of the physiological and morphological characteristics of canola CE185942R, and further comprise the desired trait.
A method of modifying fatty acid metabolism or modifying carbohydrate metabolism of canola CE185942R wherein the method comprises:
- (a) crossing a CE185942R plant, wherein a representative sample of seed was deposited under ATCC Accession No. PTA 122828, with a plant of another canola cultivar to produce F1 progeny plants that comprise a nucleic acid molecule encoding an enzyme selected from the group consisting of phytase, fructosyltransferase, levansucrase, alpha-amylase, invertase and starch branching enzyme or encoding an antisense of stearyl-ACP desaturase;
- (b) selecting one or more progeny plants that have said nucleic acid molecule to produce selected progeny plants;
- (c) crossing the selected progeny plants with the CE185942R plants to produce backcross progeny plants;
- (d) selecting for backcross progeny plants that have said nucleic acid molecule and physiological and morphological characteristics of canola CE185942R to produce selected backcross progeny plants;
- and (e) repeating steps (c) and (d) three or more times to produce selected fourth or higher backcross progeny plants that comprise said nucleic acid molecule and have an oleic acid value of about 70% and an α-linolenic acid value of less than about 3% as a percentage of total fatty acids, comprise all of the physiological and morphological characteristics of canola CE185942R, and further comprise the desired trait.
