Abstract
Wireless-conferencing radios communicate directly with each other without a bases station using a multiple access protocol, such as Time Division Multiple Access (TDMA). Wireless-conferencing radios can be formed into groups and larger mesh networks. Some groups of wireless-conferencing radios use frequencies in a cellular band to communicate.
Claims20
A communication system for establishing direct full-duplex communications over a cellular frequency band, the communication system comprising:
- a first radio;
- and
- a second radio, wherein:
- the first radio and the second radio are configured to transmit and receive directly with each other using time division multiple access before communicating with a cellular base station;
- and
- the second radio is configured to:
- transmit, to the cellular base station, a request to reserve a sub band of the cellular frequency;
- receive a response to the request indicating that the sub-band has been reserved;
- transmit to the first radio a reference to the sub band;
- and
- transmit and receive directly with the first radio on the sub band using time division multiple access.
A mobile device for establishing direct full-duplex communications over a cellular frequency band, the mobile device comprising:
- a microphone configured to receive sound input;
- a speaker configured to generate audible output;
- a wireless transceiver configured to transmit and receive wireless signals across a cellular frequency band;
- and
- one or more processors coupled to the microphone, the speaker, and the wireless transceiver, the one or more processors configured to:
- establish direct, full-duplex communication with a second mobile device using time division multiple access;
- transmit, via the wireless transceiver and after establishing direct, full-duplex communication with the second mobile device, to a cellular base station a request to reserve a sub-band of the cellular frequency band for direct, full-duplex communications;
- and
- transmit and receive directly with the second mobile device on the sub-band of the cellular frequency band using time division multiple access.
A method for establishing direct full-duplex communications using a cellular band, the method comprising:
- establishing direct communication between a first mobile device and a second mobile device using time division multiple access;
- transmitting, to a cellular base station after establishing direct communication between the first mobile device and the second mobile device, a request to reserve a sub band of the cellular frequency band using the first mobile device;
- receiving, by the first mobile device, a response to the request indicating that the sub-band has been reserved;
- transmitting to the second mobile device a reference to the sub band;
- and
- transmitting and receiving, using the first mobile device, directly with the second mobile device using the sub band and time division multiple access.
