Abstract
A novel audio ducking method that is aware of the loudness levels of the audio content is provided. The method specifies a minimum loudness separation between audio tracks that are designated as masters and audio tracks that are designated as slaves. The method attenuates the volume of the slave tracks in order to provide at least the minimum loudness separation between the slave tracks and the master tracks. The amount of attenuation for a slave is determined based on the loudness levels of the slave and of a master.
Claims20
A method of creating multimedia presentations, the method comprising:
- creating a composite presentation that comprises a plurality of audio clips;
- specifying a minimum loudness separation between a first audio clip and a second audio clip of the plurality of audio clips;
- and
- playing back the composite presentation, wherein playing back the composite presentation comprises reducing the loudness of the first audio clip to meet the specified minimum loudness separation between the first audio clip and the second audio clip.
A non-transitory computer readable medium storing a program which when executed by at least one processing unit creates multimedia presentations, the program comprising sets of instructions for:
- creating a composite presentation that comprises a plurality of audio clips;
- specifying a minimum loudness separation between a first audio clip and a second audio clip of the plurality of audio clips;
- and
- playing back the composite presentation, wherein the set of instructions for playing back the composite presentation comprises a set of instructions for reducing the loudness of the first audio clip to meet the specified minimum loudness separation between the first audio clip and the second audio clip.
A media editing system for creating multimedia presentations comprising:
- a set of processing units;
- and
- a non-transitory computer readable medium storing a program which when executed by at least one processing unit creates multimedia presentations, the program comprising sets of instructions for:
- creating a composite presentation that comprises a plurality of audio clips;
- specifying a minimum loudness separation between a first audio clip and a second audio clip of the plurality of audio clips;
- and
- playing back the composite presentation, wherein the set of instructions for playing back the composite presentation comprises a set of instructions for reducing the loudness of the first audio clip to meet the specified minimum loudness separation between the first audio clip and the second audio clip.
