## Abstract

Disclosed are an illumination system and a display apparatus using the same. The illumination system includes a light guide plate; grooves disposed in the light guide plate, each of the grooves having at least one inclined surface; light source modules disposed within the grooves, wherein the light source modules comprise, substrates and light sources disposed on the substrates; and stoppers disposed between a first surface of each of the light sources and the at least one inclined surface of each of the grooves, the first surface of each of the light sources facing the at least one inclined surface. A cross-sectional area of the grooves is larger than that of the stoppers.

## Claims

### Claim 1

An illumination system, comprising:
a light guide plate;
grooves disposed in the light guide plate, each of the grooves having at least one side surface and a bottom surface;
light source modules disposed within the grooves, wherein the light source modules comprise:
substrates; and
light sources disposed on the substrates; and
stoppers disposed between a first surface of each of the light sources and the at least one side surface of each of the grooves, the first surface of each of the light sources facing the at least one side surface,
wherein a cross-sectional area of the grooves is larger than that of the stoppers.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The illumination system according to claim 1, wherein the stoppers contact at least one of the side surfaces of the grooves, the bottom surfaces of the grooves and the light source modules.

### Claim 3 (depends on 1)

The illumination system according to claim 1, wherein the stoppers are separated from the side surfaces of the grooves at a first interval, are separated from the bottom surfaces of the grooves at a second interval, and are separated from the light source modules by a third interval.

### Claim 4 (depends on 3)

The illumination system according to claim 3, wherein the first interval is greater than the second and third intervals, and the third interval is smaller than the first and second intervals.

### Claim 5 (depends on 1)

The illumination system according to claim 1, wherein the stoppers are attached to the substrates of the light source modules by an adhesive agent.

### Claim 6 (depends on 1)

The illumination system according to claim 1, wherein the stoppers are attached to the bottom surfaces of the grooves of the light guide plate by an adhesive agent.

### Claim 7 (depends on 1)

The illumination system according to claim 1, wherein the stoppers are simultaneously attached to the substrates of the light source modules by a first adhesive agent and the bottom surfaces of the grooves of the light guide plate by a second adhesive agent.

### Claim 8 (depends on 7)

The illumination system according to claim 7, wherein the first adhesive agent and the second adhesive agent are integrally formed.

### Claim 9 (depends on 7)

The illumination system according to claim 7, wherein the first adhesive agent and the second adhesive agent are formed of different materials.

### Claim 10 (depends on 1)

The illumination system according to claim 1, wherein a reflector is disposed on at least one of the side surfaces or the bottom surfaces of the grooves of the light guide plate.

### Claim 11 (depends on 1)

The illumination system according to claim 1, wherein a reflector is disposed between the stoppers and bottom surfaces of the grooves of the light guide plate.

### Claim 12 (depends on 11)

The illumination system according to claim 11, wherein the reflector directly contacts the stoppers.

### Claim 13 (depends on 11)

The illumination system according to claim 11, wherein the reflector is separated from the stoppers.

### Claim 14 (depends on 11)

The illumination system according to claim 11, wherein the stoppers are attached to the reflector by an adhesive agent.

### Claim 15 (depends on 11)

The illumination system according to claim 11, wherein the reflector is further disposed between the bottom surfaces of the grooves of the light guide plate and a second surface of each of the light sources, the second surface being perpendicular to the first surface of each of the light sources.

### Claim 16 (depends on 1)

The illumination system according to claim 1, wherein the substrates and the stoppers are disposed within the grooves.

### Claim 17 (depends on 1)

The illumination system according to claim 1, wherein the substrates are disposed outside of the grooves.

### Claim 18

A display apparatus, comprising:
a display panel; and
an illumination system irradiating light onto the display panel,
wherein the illumination system includes:
a light guide plate having grooves, each of the grooves having at least one side surface and a bottom surface;
light source modules disposed within the grooves of the light guide plate, wherein the light source modules comprise:
substrates; and
light sources disposed on the substrates; and
stoppers disposed between a first surface of each of the light source modules and the at least one side surface of each of the grooves, the first surface of each of the light sources facing the at least one side surface,
wherein a cross-sectional area of the grooves is larger than that of the stoppers.

### Claim 19 (depends on 18)
