## Abstract

A novel maize variety designated X95F581 and seed, plants and plant parts thereof are produced by crossing inbred maize varieties. Methods for producing a maize plant by crossing hybrid maize variety X95F581 with another maize plant are disclosed. Methods for producing a maize plant containing in its genetic material one or more traits introgressed into X95F581 through backcross conversion and/or transformation, and to the maize seed, plant and plant part produced thereby. This invention relates to the maize variety X95F581, the seed, the plant produced from the seed, and variants, mutants, and minor modifications of maize variety X95F581. This invention further relates to methods for producing maize varieties derived from maize variety X95F581.

## Claims

### Claim 1

An F1 hybrid maize variety X95F581 seed, representative F1 hybrid seed produced by crossing a first plant of variety PH259Y with a second plant of variety PH1W4R, wherein representative seed of said varieties PH259Y and PH1W4R have been deposited under ATCC Accession Numbers PTA-122443 and PTA-121351, respectively.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The hybrid maize variety X95F581 seed of claim 1, further comprising a seed treatment.

### Claim 3 (depends on 1)

A method comprising cleaning the hybrid maize variety X95F581 seed of claim 1.

### Claim 4 (depends on 1)

A method for producing nucleic acids, the method comprising isolating nucleic acids from the hybrid maize variety X95F581 seed of claim 1.

### Claim 5 (depends on 1)

A plant, plant part, or plant cell produced by growing the hybrid maize variety X95F581 seed of claim 1, the plant, plant part or plant cell comprising at least one F1 hybrid maize variety X95F581 cell.

### Claim 6 (depends on 5)

A method for producing nucleic acids, the method comprising isolating nucleic acids from the plant, plant part, or plant cell of claim 5.

### Claim 7 (depends on 5)

A method of producing a commodity plant product comprising starch, syrup, silage, fat or protein, the method comprising producing the commodity plant product from the plant or plant part of claim 5.

### Claim 8 (depends on 5)

A method for producing a second maize plant, the method comprising applying plant breeding techniques to the maize plant or plant part of claim 5 to produce the second maize plant.

### Claim 9 (depends on 5)

A method comprising:
(a) crossing the maize plant or plant part of claim 5 with itself or a different plant to produce progeny seed;
(b) growing the progeny seed to produce a progeny plant and crossing the progeny plant with itself or a different plant to produce further progeny seed; and
(c) repeating step (b) for at least an additional two generations to produce a second maize plant.

### Claim 10 (depends on 5)

A method for producing a second maize plant, the method comprising doubling haploid seed generated from a cross of the maize plant or plant part of claim 5 with a different maize plant.

### Claim 11

An F1 hybrid maize variety X95F581 seed further comprising a locus conversion, the converted seed being produced by crossing a first plant of variety PH259Y with a second plant of variety PH1W4R; representative seed of said varieties PH259Y and PH1W4R having been deposited under ATCC Accession Numbers PTA-122443 and PTA-121351, respectively; wherein at least one of said varieties PH259Y and PH1W4R further comprises a locus conversion and wherein the converted seed produces a plant having otherwise essentially the same morphological and physiological characteristics as maize variety X95F581 listed in Table 1 when grown under the same environmental conditions.

### Claim 12 (depends on 11)

The converted seed of claim 11, further comprising a seed treatment.

### Claim 13 (depends on 11)

A method comprising cleaning the converted seed of claim 11.

### Claim 14 (depends on 11)

The converted seed of claim 11, wherein the locus conversion confers a property selected from the group consisting of male sterility, site-specific recombination, abiotic stress tolerance, altered phosphorus, altered antioxidants, altered fatty acids, altered essential amino acids, altered carbohydrates, herbicide tolerance, insect resistance and disease resistance.

### Claim 15 (depends on 11)

A method for producing nucleic acids, the method comprising isolating nucleic acids from the hybrid maize variety X95F581 seed of claim 11.

### Claim 16 (depends on 11)

A plant, plant part, or plant cell produced by growing the hybrid maize variety X95F581 seed of claim 11, the plant, plant part or plant cell comprising at least one F1 hybrid maize variety X95F581 cell.

### Claim 17 (depends on 16)

A method for producing nucleic acids, the method comprising isolating nucleic acids from the plant, plant part, or plant cell of claim 16.

### Claim 18 (depends on 16)

A method of producing a commodity plant product comprising starch, syrup, silage, fat or protein, the method comprising producing the commodity plant product from the plant or plant part of claim 16.

### Claim 19 (depends on 16)

A method for producing a second maize plant, the method comprising applying plant breeding techniques to the plant or plant part of claim 16 to produce the second maize plant.

### Claim 20 (depends on 16)

A method for producing a second maize plant, the method comprising doubling haploid seed generated from a cross of the maize plant or plant part of claim 16 with a different maize plant.
