A method for producing an anode active material for a secondary battery, which is formed by coating a condensed phosphate containing an alkaline earth metal element on a surface of titanium dioxide, and contains 0.1 to 10% by mass of each of elemental phosphorus and the alkaline earth metal element with respect to the titanium dioxide, the method comprising:
- a step of forming titanium dioxide by adding a titanium-containing compound to an acidic aqueous solution, to which phosphoric acid has been added, to carry out hydrolysis, and then adding a condensed phosphate and a compound containing an alkaline earth metal to the acidic aqueous solution, thereby coating a condensed phosphate containing an alkaline earth metal on the surface of the titanium dioxide.
