Abstract
The invention includes a rim for a cycle wheel, having a U-shaped radial cross section, with two lateral sidewalls and a bridge connecting the sidewalls and located so as to be opposite an axis rotation of the wheel. The sidewalls each define a planar braking surface, adapted to cooperate with a brake pad. The height of at least one braking surface, measured radially, is not constant over the circumference of the rim and has at least one variation in height.
Claims30
A rim for a cycle wheel, said rim comprising:
- a left sidewall and a right sidewall;
- a bridge connecting the left and right sidewalls to one another, the bridge defining a radially inner portion of the rim;
- the left and right sidewalls and the bridge forming a U-shaped radial cross section;
- each of the left and right sidewalls defines a planar braking surface configured to cooperate with a respective brake pad;
- the braking surface of each of the left and right sidewalls including an entirety of a portion of each sidewall that is engageable by said respective brake pad, said portion having a radially innermost boundary and an outermost boundary;
- the braking surface of at least one of the left and right sidewalls has a height, measured radially between the radially innermost boundary and a radially outermost boundary, not constant over a circumference of the rim and has at least one variation in height.

A wheel comprising:
- a rim;
- a hub;
- a plurality of spokes extending between the rim and the hub;
- the rim comprising:
- a left sidewall and a right sidewall;
- a bridge connecting the left and right sidewalls to one another, the bridge defining a radially inner portion of the rim;
- the left and right sidewalls and the bridge forming a U-shaped radial cross section;
- each of the left and right sidewalls defines a planar braking surface configured to cooperate with a respective brake pad;
- the braking surface of each of the left and right sidewalls including an entirety of a portion of each sidewall that is engageable by said respective brake pad, said portion having a radially innermost boundary and an outermost boundary;
- the braking surface of at least one of the left and right sidewalls has a height, measured radially between the radially innermost boundary and a radially outermost boundary, not constant over a circumference of the rim and has at least one variation in height.

A rim for a cycle wheel, said rim comprising:
- two lateral sidewalls a left sidewall and a right sidewall;
- a bridge connecting the left and right sidewalls to one another, the bridge defining a radially inner portion of the rim;
- the left and right sidewalls and the bridge forming a U-shaped radial cross section;
- each of the left and right sidewalls defines a respective planar braking surface designed to be engaged by a respective brake pad;
- the braking surface of each of the left and right sidewalls including an entirety of a planar portion of each sidewall that is engageable by said respective brake pad, said portion having a radially innermost periphery and an outermost periphery;
- and
- at least one of the braking surfaces of the left and right sidewalls comprises a circumferentially extending band having a width defined by a distance between the outermost periphery and the innermost periphery of the band, said width not being constant along the entirety of the circumference of the band.
