Abstract
Methods are provided for forming a spliced eye (220) of a sling (222) made from a rope that includes a core rope (37) and includes a braided sheath (398).
Claims34
A section of rope having at least one eye, the section of rope having the at least one eye being produced by a process, the process having steps of providing a strength member core of a rope, the process comprising steps of:
- a) situating an object adjacent to at least a portion of the strength member core of the rope;
- b) subsequently covering at least portions of the combination of the at least a portion of the strength member core of the rope and the object with at least a portion of a braided sheath formed of strands;
- c) attaching to the object a portion of a structure formed of the same strands that form the at least a portion of the braided sheath;
- and
- d) subsequently removing the object from the at least a portion of the braided sheath so as to cause the portion of the structure attached to the object to be drawn into at least a portion of the space within the at least a portion of the braided sheath enclosing the at least a portion of the strength member core of the rope that was originally occupied by at least a portion of the object, whereby a mainly coverbraided section of rope having at least one eye is economically produced.
A trawl that includes a section of rope having at least one eye, the section of rope having the at least one eye being produced by a process, the process having steps of providing a strength member core of a rope, the process comprising steps of:
- a) situating an object adjacent to at least a portion of the strength member core of the rope;
- b) subsequently covering at least portions of the combination of the at least a portion of the strength member core of the rope and the object with at least a portion of a braided sheath formed of strands;
- c) attaching to the object a portion of a structure formed of the same strands that form the at least a portion of the braided sheath;
- and
- d) subsequently removing the object from the at least a portion of the braided sheath so as to cause the portion of the structure attached to the object to be drawn into at least a portion of the space within the at least a portion of the braided sheath enclosing the at least a portion of the strength member core of the rope that was originally occupied by at least a portion of the object, whereby a mainly coverbraided section of rope having at least one eye is economically produced.
A trawl including a section of rope having at least one eye, the trawl including the section of rope having the at least one eye being produced by a process, the process including steps of providing a strength member core of a rope, the process comprising steps of:
- a) situating an object adjacent to at least a portion of the strength member core of the rope;
- b) subsequently covering at least portions of the combination of the at least a portion of the strength member core of the rope and the object with at least a portion of a braided sheath formed of strands;
- c) attaching to the object a portion of a structure formed of the same strands that form the at least a portion of the braided sheath;
- and
- d) subsequently removing the object from the at least a portion of the braided sheath so as to cause the portion of the structure attached to the object to be drawn into at least a portion of the space within the at least a portion of the braided sheath enclosing the at least a portion of the strength member core of the rope that was originally occupied by at least a portion of the object, whereby a trawl including a mainly coverbraided section of rope having at least one eye is economically produced.
A process for forming a section of rope having at least one eye, the process including steps of providing a strength member core of a rope, the process comprising steps of:
- a) situating an object adjacent to at least a portion of the strength member core of the rope;
- b) subsequently covering at least portions of the combination of the at least a portion of the strength member core of the rope and the object with at least a portion of a braided sheath formed of strands;
- c) attaching to the object a portion of a structure formed of the same strands that form the at least a portion of the braided sheath;
- and
- d) subsequently removing the object from the at least a portion of the braided sheath so as to cause the portion of the structure attached to the object to be drawn into at least a portion of the space within the at least a portion of the braided sheath enclosing the at least a portion of the strength member core of the rope that was originally occupied by at least a portion of the object, whereby a mainly coverbraided section of rope is economically produced.
A process for forming a trawl that includes a section of rope having at least one eye, the rope formed by a process that includes steps of providing a strength member core of a rope, the process comprising steps of:
- a) situating an object adjacent to at least a portion of the strength member core of the rope;
- b) subsequently covering at least portions of the combination of the at least a portion of the strength member core of the rope and the object with at least a portion of a braided sheath formed of strands;
- c) attaching to the object a portion of a structure formed of the same strands that form the at least a portion of the braided sheath;
- and
- d) subsequently removing the object from the at least a portion of the braided sheath so as to cause the portion of the structure attached to the object to be drawn into at least a portion of the space within the at least a portion of the braided sheath enclosing the at least a portion of the strength member core of the rope that was originally occupied by at least a portion of the object, whereby a mainly coverbraided section of rope is economically produced.
