Systems and methods for portable audio synthesis

A method of performing audio synthesis, wherein a first audio event is input to an audio algorithm along with associated parameters, wherein a synthesis algorithm accesses a soundbank to generate audio output, the method comprising the steps of:

• providing a soundbank comprised of two or more levels for a first desired sound, wherein a first level is associated with a first sample comprised of a relatively chaotic waveform, and a second level is associated with at least a second sample comprised of a relatively stable waveform;
• providing parameter data associated with one or more of the levels;
• and
• wherein the first sample and the second sample begin to sound at the same point in time in response to the first audio event, wherein the audio output is based in part on the parameter data, and wherein the second sample is continuously looped until a second audio event is detected.
